Level 1 - Ranged DPS (Hunter)

So I was playing with a couple rouge level 1s doing some pve encounters while tanking on my paladin, one rogue decided he would try his bow out to see if it hit, he claimed it landed 5 out of 5 hits on the level 21 we were killing.

The rogue didn't have BOA bor nor feathered arrow and was hitting around 6 damage, with those two items the hits could probably be in the 30s.

Has anyone tested a hunter for PVE level 1? I think it could be crazy good if it can land enough hits, I'm going to make one but it may be a while before I can test it out on a 20+

Is there a different formula for calculating ranged hit chance on a rogue vs a hunter? If a rogue has a real high hit chance it may be able to pump more dps through ranged.

It should be viable, I've always tried to get ppl in my guild into making it. But even getting 1 stack of Feathered Arrows is too much work for some.

With 30 haste on your gear and the rest decked out with agility.

EDIT: Me and røsk figured this out some months back, you can see him ranging some in our 6man hogger video.

is the dps any good?

should be with 10 characters

i suppose with the Lava Dredger, bone bow and a haste set it'd be pretty good.

The only thing is is that you can do the exact same thing with a warrior and get the same result.. so.. yeah.

Hunters can't use maces. 1h or 2h. ;)

huh. thought they could. oh well.

ARCANITE REAPER, HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

The DPS will be outstanding if he has a good hit chance, but I don't know if warrior/rogue range hit percentage is calculated differently for hunters, if not it could be great.

my lvl 1 hunter twink i had could pull 32 ds and crit for 127. the weapons were the BoA staff with 25 agil and BoA bow with feathered arrows, had all other best dps enchants.

mind you this is without the 2 haste trinkets which i haven't got around to yet. so i guess you could get around 35 dps.

By far a valid dps then. For raids, I geuss its something you use as an off-twink since you'll be on a limited amount of feathered arrows.

i've done some calculation of hunter speed. if that can help finding its DPS !

Troll hunter

30 haste + 15% basic + 20% racial = around 120% shooting speed.

that makes the GUN, sorry i didn't have the bow. go down from 2.90 to a great 1.08 speed.

i think that would take away all feathered arrows in a matter of a fight only and might not even do the whole fight.

The thing with hunter and everyone should understand this. There's no one in the world who has enough feathered arrows to use them at all times as a lvl 1 hunter. If you make a hunter for PvE purposes you should have a couple of hundred feathered arrows and you should only use him in those situation where you really really lack some DPS to manage to down that ultimate boss. If I replaced one of my rogues when I got Taskmaster Fizzule to 499 HP with a hunter with 1.00 atk speed and he had 600 arrows (that's enough for 10minutes of constant shooting I believe) we would've managed to kill him. We would've killed him if I had 225 FA and LB rank 2 though.

EDIT: Forgot to say that you should have another twink to use when you're not using your hunter. Like I did with Bøgadin, didn't use Bøgadin for anything besides healing in raids when we lacked healers and 2 manning.

For some reason bows seem to hit more often than melee. When I did Gnomer on my 19 hunter, I missed only special moves, and that was very rarely (had like 17 hit rating or so)

I've noticed that as well, and when I watch the movies where I and Røsk 2manned he seems to hit more often with sinister strike than with auto hit
