Alright so as many of you know there is a level squish coming in the Shadowlands pre-patch.
There have been a couple stances on what this will mean for 19 twinks. One is that they won't be affected at all, as there will be a 'threshold level' for the squish (i.e. low level toons won't be squished until after level 20.) Another is that EVERYONE's toon gets squished, although it's unclear what the target squish level would be for 19's. A number that people have thrown around is 9, which is obviously pretty bad news. Even though we could just level our characters to 19, our gear will not level with us, meaning our twinks will be effectively worthless.
...Unless we just duel in Durotar as the level 9 bracket. Goldshire Gulch maybe?
Now obviously there's a lot that still needs to be confirmed. Most of this is just rumors and speculation. But how exactly might we get around this problem? There are three options I see moving forward.
1. Accept defeat and make a new twink, lose all of your grandfathered gear, and gear it with whatever BiS gear you can still get
2. Try to guess which level will be squished to 19 and gear that character to be BiS (this is super uncertain and probably impossible to guess, and even if you guessed correctly there's no guarantee that the squished gear will be BiS anyway)
And, the third option, an idea I had recently:
3. Delete your twink right before the pre-patch, install the pre-patch, and then restore your deleted character.
Once again there is no promise that this will work, and it may have been thought of already by Blizzard. But because there is no penalty to deleting a character within the restore timeframe window, it may be worth trying this to preserve your twinks. I know a lot of us have spent insane amounts of time and gold/real money on our toons and it would be a shame to lose them.
We'll see what happens, but this may be worth considering. Just wanted to share.
