Keller Gnomes are giant.

So, I was playing some WoW classic:LK the other day and noticed that in the quest text, an NPC mentions that the alliance base on Borean tundra is "several hundred" miles away from the alliance base in howling fjord. So, I assume that means at LEAST 300 miles, since one would use "a couple hundred" in stead of "several hundred" miles if it were close to 200. Also, he does not know much anything of the outlying lands, they have scouts in the first vykrul village that is directly next to them and even then you get a quest from a scout in that village that says basically "we scouted part of this village but we cant really get much further, can you see whats on the other side?" This makes me think that our "at least 300 miles" distance has to be an "as the crow flys" measurement since he doesn't know what the land is like when he makes the statement.

So, my 100th thought was if I were to drive 70 miles an hour (highway speeds) for 300 miles, it would take me 5 hours to do it, but I am almost certain that my character can run from one base to the other in less than 30 minutes, and that's not even traveling as the crow flys. This VERY conservative VERY rough mental excessive clocks unmodified run speed in wow @ 600 mi/hr.

There were a couple other thoughts that came to mind, Firstly...if we laid gnomes across foot to head from one base to the other how many gnomes would it take? and then... how tall are gnomes once we figure that out? How about how big are the feet of druids in moonkin form?

And then... my imagination died as i remembered that we have a verified way to measure distance already in WoW (spell range) and this was just a very idiotic npc that does not know shit.

I was prepared to measure the time it took to run, walk, then hop laying gnomes foot to head to discover more about our world....but it was all based on lies.

Edit: Just know that in Vice admiral Keller's estimate we are all super fucking fast and massively large in WoW. Keller Gnomes are giants.

Kalimdor: looks massive, bigger than northrend

Actually only takes about an hour to run through on a mount

My theory is that when our character moves, we shrink the entire planet so that we can cover the distance

The game creators were pretty clear early on that in World Of Warcraft, Azeroth is a miniature version of the actual size of the world in lore. iirc, an example given was that in lore, SW is about the size of Manhattan but in game, the whole eastern kingdoms is about that big.

Reason being it just wouldnt be fun for it to take 36 hours to get to Goldshire, etc.

Done, and oh man, the older I get the more sure I am that I have ADHD. I thought everyone's minds worked like this until a few years ago :frogeW:

I got diagnosed last year, at 30 years old. Looking back, I 10000% see it in every moment of my life.

I told my mom about it, and apparently she brought me to get diagnosed when I was young and they just told her not to worry about it.

funny how we seem to be just outside the generation that was like "alright, medicate the fuck out of our kids cause they are annoying"

There was like a couple kids on Ritalin, Adderall wasn't really around here in Canada in the late 90s/early 2000s from my memory (which is garbage, probably due to having ADHD...)

I always thought ADHD was just being hyperactive and not paying attention. Nobody ever told me hyper-focusing on certain things is a symptom as well. Really puts my hyper-focus of playing music and playing WoW (to the detriment of every other aspect of my life) into perspective.

I got diagnosed when I was young but back then the medication had a very negative connotation (since it is very similar to speed) so my parents were nervous about it and I went unmedicated until I was over 30. I think that is pretty common for people around my age.
