Is Twinking still a thing?

Welcome back! You're in the right place to get back into the swing of things, that's for damn sure!
F2P 20's are definately where it's at, & twinking is as interesting as it's been in years.
Most of us are on Bleeding Hollow & Blackwing Lair NA
Here's a quick go-to reference for BiS gearing. https://twinkdb.github.io/20/home.html
Here's a link to the alliance community where all are welcome! :PepeComfy:

Just made a character on Alliance on Bleeding Hollow.

Maybe there could some how be a more easy way for new twinks or old twinks returning to find all the amazing guides and link to twinkdb. I know many of you think it's easy and that you pinned the most important. The fact just is that many new or returning twinks whispers me asking questions cos they couldn't find all the answers on this page. I'm down to help in any way possible.

There's a whole Guide Compendium And FAQ thread pinned to the top of the 20s forum and linked in the homepage slider of the website. What more did you have in mind?

That said, there are some issues. There's only 3-4 class guides because noone writes class guides anymore. So "hey I cant find a guide for druid" or whatever isn't a forum issue. They just dont exist. Feel free to write one.

There's also the problem of nebulous questions like "is twinking still a thing?" which... if I wrote "yes" in the FAQ, thats still got a publish date of over a year ago. How do they know its being maintained and updated?

It seems weird to blame staff or layout for people being too lazy to click atleast once orienting the site and just going "homepage doesnt have the exact thing, time to spend twice the time of searching to complain about it"

I didn't blame anyone at all.

Ye cool. I'll see if I can find the time to write a guide on the missing classes.

For me it's not hard to find any of the data I'm looking for.
I just see alot of new ppl joining the bracket and was looking for ways to make it more easy for them.

Maybe there could be a "New to twinking? Click here" picture with all the info in one treat. But ye if I'm just getting roasted I'll keep my mouth shot.

Writing guides is the best way to help new players in my opinion. There is so so much misleading information on xpoff that it makes it really hard for a new player to get into the bracket. Best way to do it is read about the "let sub expire with xpon" thing and then just find an in game community. Reading anything further on here will result in either poorly geared character or a wrong perception of the bracket.

OP notwithstanding (im sure he's a nice guy) most people just refuse to do much looking. I can't tell you how many times someone has said in the discord "hey, im new where do i start?" and I link the FAQ thread and get told "yea, i saw that but I cant be assed to read it all"

and like... fair.

Twinking these days, beyond just copying an armory build, requires a lot of upfront knowledge. A lot of us know this stuff, but like... if you're new it can be wildly overwhelming. Twinking is a LOT of unknown unknowns and that's just a result of 17 years of evolution of the game itself as well as how twinking works. Those of us that have kept up with it know it because things change slowly over time and every new thing comes up in digestible bites. But WoW, even at its best, isnt beginner friendly and twinking itself REALLY isnt beginner friendly.

Like, just drift by the reddit twinking subforums and see people talk about their BIS 20s that have +1 vendor gems and no enchants. These guys legitimately dont even know to look for better gems, much less how to look for them or where to start the process. So if you're writing a guide, how do you even know to account for that? And if you're a new person reading a guide and it just casually mentions gems and you didnt know that was a thing... its like "wait, what!?"

I think your impulse is a good one and dont mean to come across like Im roasting you. I have often wrestled with how best to consolidate and present the excellent information on this forum in a beginner friendly manner, so I'm always open to suggestions. But beyond a pinned thread and slider link... man, I got nothin. Maybe if we ever upgrade to XF2, we could get a little pop-up thats like "hey, I see this is a new account. Here's our beginner forum!" but that'd be a long ways down the road.

If I had a lone wish, it would for there to be a 'BiS / suggested / optional' Enchant list on https://twinkdb.github.io/20/home.html

There's a significant amount to learn, but the leg-work has largely been done. It's juts a matter of guiding new players to the info, which is already here https://xpoff.com/threads/20s-guide-index-and-faq-read-before-posting-new-threads.95324/ I don't know how much more comprehensive a guide can get?
Once a player joins a community, most of the questions can be answered there as well, & be satisfied the MMO way, having fun in a group with others.
