It's horrible to be a forum for a game that you like so much, and have to be using a translator to understand more or less what people talk, and slang are the worst.

Most of what is said is crap anyways ;p, and not worth the effort to translate. Oooops - "crap" is slang for garbage.

Is it really horrible though? You should look at it from the bright side, this way you can play the game which you're very fond of and improve your language skills at the same time (if you wanted to). I can remember when I started playing online games with little knowledge of the English language  I was very eager to learn, and looking back from now I have to say that I've improved my English a lot by interacting with other people in online games.

I would say you're lucky, I've searched high and low for a good MMO where the main language is German so I'm forced to use a translator/first hand knowledge

World of Warcraft improved my typing skills. Seriously.

I don't know about MMOs, but there may exist something in the avenue of a Settlers of Catan RTS — TLtG (an abbreviation I just made up for Too Lazy to Google). Maybe Yde knows of one.

I actually thought about rolling on Gallywix, when it opened up, to learn Portugese. Until I found out what was going on there *,,,,* #stereotyped

note: The above emoticon translates to a scary face.

Slang is very important part of language. You haven't really mastered a language until you understand its slang and idioms. I've made some spanish speaking friends, and I had to learn the slang first so I could filter out what I really needed to translate.

^ Tried translating that thread from English to Portuguese, and then back to English again:

"I be fishing in briny blue range for the great sea of the beast that ate the hand the' -me first mate. Without luck for many a high tide. But, unfortunately, I finally harpooned the scaly terrible wench is back a son off the coast of Darkmoon island! Arrrgh, which be a sea Pony next to Crushfish; i caught she launches five before. RNG not be a lover so fickle. Salty balls in service ye dwelt!"

If only we all spoke in pirate, then everyone learning English on the TI forums would have a pirate accent.
