Instances Proc rate on Sockets, static or variable?

Hi Guys,

Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know there is a small percentage of a socket proc for Head, Neck, Wrist, Waist, Fingers items in any Vanilla / TBC / WotLK / MoP / WoD / Legion / SL 5man instance.

My question, is the proc rate the same in each of the expansions? I've read several sources that say they increased in it X expansion but the articles are all pretty old. Considering I am running 4 warriors with 1 retri paladin (All trade enabled (Vets)) and burning through instances fast, often hitting 2 drops per a boss, I can say its pretty damn low in TBC. Does the procs increase in any of the expansions for additional sockets or terts?

Also, does anyone suspect or have a confirmation on the proc rate? per tert, per socket etc.

I don’t think there’s an exact science to it. Many have speculated that upgrade rates are around 10%

I would also speculate that the upgrade chance is equal across all dungeons from all expansion eras

TBC upgrades are particularly brutal since most bosses have large loot tables so your chance at any one particular item is already pretty small, now add your desired upgrade chance into that and you have quite a few runs on your hands.

I think WOD is the most unforgiving, yes it has WF and Socket proc but the main issue is each boss has like 6 different variations of a bracers for example! so even if you get a socket proc, likely hood it would be on something that isn't your desired stats.

Also 10% seems a little high, I've ran more than a hundred instances with a 5man team and got like 4 procs, RNG bad lack? ;/ Maybe I should go to one man solo and speed reset on the bosses i need rather than full clears

The general consensus seems to be that it's around a 5% chance to upgrade but that can be any upgrade (hell yes indestructible let's go!). This seems to roughly track with my experience and that of others. Id swear some stuff seems to have higher proc rate chances but that's probably just confirmation bias (the saurscale adaptation cloak really does seem to proc a lot, for instance)

I don't know why they would bother writing out different proc rates for different xpacs but WOD does seem to be a bit of an outlier in other ways so who knows. Luckily, you don't actually need it for anything and it can be avoided entirely.

On a more general level I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just settle in knowing that each piece of gear can be a real slog. I know it's easy to get paranoid that "something changed!" when you're on your hundredth run for a speed proc or something but luck is like that sometimes.

Yeah I’d say it is probably closer to that 5% mark I guess

The weird thing about WOD is that the blizz made all of the armor gear like wrist, legs, helms, chest, boots etc shared across all of the dungeons in the xpac - while making spec specific gear like weapons, trinks etc drop as normal

The result is the same as TBC kinda in that you have massive loot tables, but in reality the boss only might drop 3 types of items for your spec (ex 1 weapon with 6 types of legs and 6 types of bracers)

Getting a single upgrade on a desired piece of gear is a challenge. Getting a “double proc” (ex tertiary + socket on an eligible item) is quite a feat.

Agree with Chops. There is no rhyme or reason for a proc here and there. I've run 100 times and received no procs, then hop another toon and received two in under 10 runs. It's a randomized scheme they have built into the leveling systems. And like most things, it runs on pure luck and chance.

i ran ToP (once) today to do weekly quest, i got 3 of the 4 rings available from the loot table, 2 rings proc'd sockets, 1 of those 2 also proc'd avoidance.

since those were the only 3 items i got from the bosses, i would say the odds are 60-66%
