iLvl 28 BFA BoEs vs TBC Socketed Gear

Hi there everyone

I have just begun gearing a pure F2P Paladin, and am wondering about BiS gear...

Would it be better (theoretically) to have:

1) Full ilvl 28 BoE gear (farmed in Nazmir) all with a socket rolled and, for instance, + Speed on all pieces

2) All TBC socketed gear (like mentioned here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet..._V2sMhC2EOjhT8hNgqsPe61AI/edit#gid=1267381059) (So I would also get the full set bonuses)


In both cases, let's assume I have the BiS gems to put in the slots.

P.S.: Please let me know how you find Prot/Holy/Ret in the 20s bracket if you've tried it

Of the two options you listed, I suppose full ilvl 28 BOEs are, in theory, your best bet.

The best set, however, is a mix of both.

Who has the time to farm up a full set of ilvl28 socket+speed though. You really underestimate the amount of time it will take.

I'd grab TBC gems, then get your mastery pieces from a legion or bfa dungeon to get tertiary/socket upgrade. You'll have much better RNG. From there if you want to slowly replace your gear, you can grind while in queue/between BGs.

This allows you to get a solid set of armor quickly and will let you BG on it earlier. Or else, you may be stuck grinding nazmir mobs for 2+ months 10+ hours each day before you get your full set (not fun and will burnout).

yea, I mean your question is fun to theorize on but the reality is you could spend the whole xpac farming and ending up with a full socket/speed set may still never happen.

I havent really counted, but I've easily spent 30+ hours farming Fallhaven, all of those either leeching off of or part of a hyper farming group, and I've gotten a pretty solid number of socketed pieces, a solid number of tertiary pieces, but not a single piece with both. And only one of those socket pieces was even useful to me at all.

And if you're pure F2P, even the grind to BIS gems will take you forever. Especially if you're trying to put together BIS for three sets.

This isnt to say "dont go for it". Its a commendable grind and if you ever do finish it, itll be damned impressive. But maybe don't expect it to be likely enough to worry about. Do what Sponsor said and get a "good enough" set and have some fun.

They are the same ilvl and usually have the same amount of stats. Only thing of note would be trinkets (eyasu or six feather, the STR one sucks).


Since a FtP can’t loot legion i28 greens, they can’t get single stat i28s.. so the epic rings are good for secondary stat stacking FtP.

Ive never seen single stat bfa green, where did you get i28 legion green on FtP?

Legion dungeons dont proc anything for people under 40 I believe.
Wod dungeons would have gear that can socketand +1ilvl warforge. Not sure if the wod stuff can proc tertiary stat

Ive never seen single stat bfa green, where did you get i28 legion green on FtP?

was just farming out at fallhaven. didnt realize it was that that rare or i'd have screenshot it

yeah, after about 40k mobs, i've found 2 items with socket and speed

This is a personal experience.. I came across a survival hunter yesterday in wsg with all ilvl28 gears and all with sockets.. he uses 4armor6stam gems in all sockets.. He caught my attention because he has 4.2k health in bg.. He is lvl20 and I am lvl28.. I find it a little strange, because why would anyone use a 4armor6stam gem? His health may be a lot but his damage is weak.. Especially for a melee class.. I have to chase him around the field and he fights me from 30 yard.. Actually he didn't fight he keeps fleeing and keeping a huge distance, and keeps throw some stuff at me that does tiny damage, no idea what ability that is.. So my conclusion is ilvl28 seems significantly weaker than bc gears.. I am in bc gears, doom plate set, hellscream weapon, complete with 5str6stam gems, i am a frost dk

On getting boe greens, I have AH toons in virtually all major realms and each of them actively hunts for boes on AH, I don't buy lvl20 ilvl28, i buy lvl19 ilvl28, but I'm after boes for other tiers too. So by the time all these toons returns to my main realm I would have enough to fill several guild banks.. I reckon this is the most effective ways to aquire boe greens.

OP is pure F2P and cannot acquire the GF'd gems youre using or a crucial part of the doomplate set, nor is he going to be a level 28 xp-off glitching into BGs against level 20s...

I played tanky control surv in BFA a bit and it was a blast. I can only imagine its even more annoying now with cheetah, turtle, exhilaration, kick, etc and even more ranged options like arcane shot. I bet its a nightmare to deal with, honestly. You should do it.
