So what would you rather play - XP-on or XP-off if you were able to choose? And by XP-on I'm talking about Vanilla/TBC when you queued with twinks and non-twinks.

Observe that this question only applies to whether it was more fun to play with XP-on or XP-off, and not if the bracket were less bursty or more balanced back then.

Pros with XP-on:
  • pewpew low lvls and get sick amount of HKs
  • fast queue-times
  • twinking was more active on most realms

Cons with XP-on:
  • alot of hate for twinks and you basically destroyed low-lvl PvP for levelers
  • it eventually got a bit boring when only faced people that gave no real competition
  • you couldn't play with people outside your battlegroup

Pros with XP-off:
  • now it's the real deal, you're facing (for the most part) good PvPers that really requires you to play good
  • no one's hating on you for twinking
  • battlegroups have been merged, so you're able to play with anybody you want to

Cons with XP-off:
  • long queue-times
  • no noobs to pwn
  • hard to get the premading going it seems

So guys, what do you think? It this moment I can't decide myself really, as you can see, there's both good and bad things with both..

And about the poll, it's the first time I ever made one, so if it's weird or not working as intended I'll either edit it myself (if that's possible but guess not) or contact a mod.

  • no noobs to pwn

Since when?

I vote for XP-on Bg's though
<

btw, as the poll is right now, we are able to 'vote' for both, you might wanna change that.

xp on only cause of the queue times, if xp on/off had the same time then i would vote xp off.

Exp. on - you forget, you wouldn't be the ONLY twink there, there would be some real challenges... but it is fun to just completely total some noob with 800 HP once and a while >.< And it's a great confidence booster for gimped classes!

xp on, because my first memories of twinking were wayyyy before we were seperated. Back then yeah, some twinks owned lvlers as much as they could, but they usually sucked and when a better twink would que up and go against him and beat him, then the better twink would be treated as a hero lol. As others mentioned the queue times would be awesome, and being in the same bg's as lvlers would promote twink growth more than anything. Also it wouldnt make a huge difference since boa's were released. A typical boa-lvler can have over 1k hp at this lvl and still have a decent amount of ap/sp due to enchants, and 80 percent of all low lvl players nowadays r using boa's so they would still live for a bit and benefit the team, and get pwnt by real twinks thus making them lose a bit of thier ego rofl.

If anything it would possibly add a small amount of balance to the teams in xp-on bg's, and the bg's wouldnt be as one sided. Almost every game you lose in xp on wsg you end up getting farmed. Also, premade wise- we could always disable xp just for premades so that would leave the guild vs guild competitive aspect of twinking intact. Or just use an addon such as av preform enabler to make sure our twink teams faced eachother.

Ever do a low lvl xp on bg with an alt, and get farmed the whole game by 800 hp boa huntards? Would be nice to have a couple skilled twinks on ur team that could do away with the hunters and carry the team to victory.

Before XP-on battlegrounds got implemented (remember, battlegrounds were always XP-off -- the default became XP-on only when the option appeared), twinks ruled battlegrounds and carried teams full of newbies. Gear, not coordination and skill, determined how most battlegrounds played.

If someone wants to be an overgeared battleground hero, go for it. Most "twinks" did back then. That's why they yelled so loudly when XP-off battlegrounds appeared and games dried up. No more griefing in the name of heroism.

XP-off was the greatest thing to ever happen to twinks, but only the ones who wanted the good fight. If I'm missing something about XP-on games, let me know. But I can't stand playing there when I can get XP-off games even one day a week, and thankfully XP-off brackets play many more days than that. If the XP-off option ever disappeared, that would likely end my days in WoW.

Well I think with the implementation of boa's it wouldnt be as bad as before. One twink couldnt roll an entire team of boa players, they would gang up on him and he would go down eventually. But before boa's when everyone had very low hp a twink could just one shot everyone one at a time before they could reach him. Real twinks would still shine, but wouldnt be invincible as it was before.

Also more players would try to twink to even the playing field and would promote twink growth. I dont see how adding twinks to the bg's would be a 100 percent negative thing, because one side usually always facerolls the other based on which one has how many hunters/rogues, and boa gear. Adding twinks to the equation would balence it out slightly. You would have the lvlers, the boa players, and the twinks all in the same bg. The boa players would farm the new players as they always do, and twinks would kill him.

I think the implementation of BoAs distracts from the widening gear spectrum. Yes, there is less of a gear difference between BoA-stacked players and twinks then there was between twinks and nontwinks. But the total gap between twinks and nontwinks is much wider now. If before we were talking about the difference between big fish and small fish, now we're talking about twinks growing to be huge fish, and BoA'ers as the big fish now. And that's just in gear.

Some XP-off players polished their skills for two years in separate battlegrounds. One of the biggest problems that came from combining battlegroups, arrived when a lot of old twinks tried to "come back", resubbing since they could finally get games. Most of them promptly quit again or made "leveling twinks" when they got demolished in XP-off battlefields.

In the most recent XP-on battlegrounds I had the misfortune of playing, the majority of players were not BoAers. Green gear and empty slots were common. They had 50-70% of the stats of BoA players, and (more importantly) died quickly because they didn't know how to work together as a team.

This is why exploiting the experience eliminator so that an XP-off player can get into XP-on battlegrounds is such a big deal. Yes, there are BoA players in XP-on, but they still can't prevent one true twink from completely dominating an XP-on battleground. People posted such stories in the forums of this website from the 10-14 and 50-54 brackets already.

I think you're right, that XP-on battlegrounds are facerolls anyway, so adding twinks wouldn't make a difference in that respect. But XP-off battlegrounds have a better chance for balanced games. Ruining that opportunity just for the sake of "more games" by adding XP-on cannon fodder feels like a serious loss for both XP-on and XP-off players.
