hunter pets?

i've been wondering since patch... i just came back after a long time away from the game. my spider no longer has web, so i'm wondering which pet is more beneficial for utility, dps, survival

There were never any pet specific abilities in cata, and we don't have them now because they're only available at lv20+. Any pet, therefore,is viable now since you can choose the tree you want. You can have a dips bear, a wolf play as cunning, or a ravager as tank, for example.

There is a difference what pet you choose below 20 (check your pets for the names of abilities). Choose 2 of 3 depending on your role.

Cunning to protect an ally (pet takes some of damage and no crits).
Ferocity does extra dps + dash + the ability to resurect pet instant once every 8 minutes (heart of phoenix).
Tenacity has a charge + 1 sec stun.

Oh and pets like the Burning Battle Boars or Consumed Thistle Bears need to be put in stable and taken out before these abilities will "stick" on your pets action bar, just a heads up.

Every pet can choose all of those roles and you can change pet specs until the gates open so there basically is no difference other than looks.

cycle your pets at the stables, and check your spellbook...pet tab

this poster is correct, pets now have abilities again at 19 and different passive abilities and they do not all have the same ones as others say. it depends which class your pet is in

dash
charge
phoenix
bullheaded

etc. and many more, i would suggest hunters check their pets. because some of their abilities are not automatic and do not occur unless you click/use them on your pet bar or have them macro'd

My choice was the tank spec for the extra survivability of the pet, and namely that 1 sec immobilize. The second choice seemed like it would die too easy taking extra damage.
