[Hunter] Changes to MoP Talent Trees, Best Hunter Race, and Gyrofreeze Ice Reflector

Legend
Hey all.

So after having a look through the changes to the proposed Mists of Pandaria hunter talent tree, I am very happy with what I see. For those of you who don't know, in the previous rendition, Readiness was on the 75 tier and the 15 tier was full of (far from dazzling) auto-shot passive enhancements, which were next to worthless. Now, a new level 90 tier of talents has been introduced, the passive auto-shot augmentations removed and all the previous talents have been moved up one tier. This means that Readiness is currently in the 60 tier.

From what I can see, if I haven't missed anything, Hunters appear not to be losing anything in the 70 bracket, gaining a passive 15% damage taken reduction, and various useful enhancements to Disengage.
Because of this, I intend to once again run a hunter/warrior team in Mists of Pandaria (assuming the trees stay the same they are currently).

My second point is a question, which quite simply asks:
Which race do you think is the best suited to Hunters in a PvP setting (regardless of faction). Goblins and Humans both offer useful bonuses and I'm interested to know how you guys weigh them out.

Finally, I am interested in the usefulness and/or viability of the Gyrofreeze Ice Reflector, which I recently crafted on my Hunter. Whilst we are a strong counter to mages, it would appear to provide an 'emergency' defensive cooldown, if a mage manages to still be alive after both scatters, silences, roar etc. have been used. I intend to start trials to estimate a rough percentage success rate of the on-use effect.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to seeing your feedback.

Cheers,
Meat

Aye, Doesn't look like we'll be losing anything, as it stands.

Was holding onto the hope that they might reduce the level requirement on deterrence or master's call, Jumped for joy when they removed the venom/ice/arcane shots perks, and moved readiness/fervor/ToTh down a notch.

Aspect of the iron hawk & Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera, Both look like very nice perks. The remainder, 2% of HP every 5 seconds seems a tad weak, for the current health pools of the bracket.

Regarding races, Several hunter races at 85 aren't quite as strong as they are at 70, Ie; Dwarves and their 28.57% Frost resistance. Aswell as Blood elves and their Arcane resistance, Whereas such resistances are much, much weaker at the higher levels. Seeing as most people in the bracket tend to ignore spell penetration entirely, Racial resistances are something to consider. I do kinda wish trolls would receive a Frost resistance racial, Seeing as trolls tend to be found in all the cold corners of the map, along with the dwarves.

As for the trinket, No idea how viable it would be, i've honestly only known a handful of people that have used it, and they've all swapped it out for another trinket, Shadowsong panther, Sonic booster, etc. And i doubt it'd make a good "Emergency cooldown." seeing how it could have a reflect chance sub-10%, then again, i have no idea of the proc/reflect rate. Let me know how it goes when you test it!

Re: [Hunter] Changes to MoP Talent Trees, Best Hunter Race, and Gyrofreeze Ice Reflec

First of all good post! I like to see that there are hunters still trying, like myself. We may hit hard but our surivability and damage over longer periods of time are QUITE lacking.

I think that the MoP changes will help a great deal. Having added utility and survivability to disengauge will be awesome but I'm not sure it will help as much as I would like! I don't understand why blizzard won't just give classes the abilities they had in BC, as well as in WOTLK. Druids had clone, mages had invis, hunters had deterence, priests had MD and so on. Hunters really just lack defensive cooldowns and missing masters call and deterence are HUGE against classes with any decent snare. Even just having aspect of the fox would help a GREAT deal.

As far as the trinket goes I am really curious how it will work. That could help a great deal against mages, but the catch is the whole "higher chance to resist on characters over 60" thing. Even if it worked half the time it would be worth using it on cooldown in certain situations! There is nothing i hate more than joining a warsong with 5 mages, except maybe joining a warsong with 5 rogues, but the trinket could help!

I'm curious if they are going to change any racials for the current races with MoP. Right now though I think humans are by far the best for alliance. Having that extra trinket really helps, especially running 2 sonic boosters when you're getting focused. That's an extra 800+ health you would be missing as any other class. Night elves seem to be fairly good when used correctly. Being able to Smeld and immune incoming spells is a huge defensive ability. Dwarves are nice against rogues and ferals but that's about it i think. Personally last but not least, i think goblins are the best glass to be as a hunter. That extra mobility to try and get away from an enemy that has you snared his huge, especially with no masters call. Undeads though, hands down look the coolest and have the best animations imo.

Would love to hear how the testing goes with that trinket! Glad to see people thinking outside the box.

Think the trinket is about a 25-30% resist chance at 70.

im playing disc hunter on 2135 currently Nihló @ Aegwynn - Spiel - World of Warcraft and going to get 2,4k aswell. I think hunter is a very strong class on 70 but everyone plays it wrong.

For mop, i think the best race is dwarf with leatherworking, for extra frost resistance, you get 140 as dwarf + lw, which helps alot against frost mages. Playing bm will give you roar of sacrifice which is a huge surviveability cooldown.

Gyrofreeze ice reflector is crap in my opinion. Sure, it does help if it's not actually missing, but the miss chance is higher than 50%, which makes in non reliable in critical situations. I think you dont even need a defense trinket as hunter, if you just gem 450 resilience, 14k life and 140 frost resistance (little bit more could be usefull aswell).

With the new utilitys in mop, hunter will definitly get one of the most viable classes among the 70 bracket

Currently running with a scorpid as marks for roar of sac, thanks for the adivce though.

While I understand that the Dwarf racial is very useful versus frost mages, I worry that focussing too much on countering one particular class may leave larger gaps in defenses against other classes, such as the extra trinket Human gives you which allows for some flexibility in your trinket choice, or the highly useful gap opener Goblin provides.

On an arena note, oh how I wish there was a good disc priest on my server... :<

Re: [Hunter] Changes to MoP Talent Trees, Best Hunter Race, and Gyrofreeze Ice Reflec

you have enough defense against other classes. Mages have an incredible burst, which hunter cant really avoid, so you have to stack frost resistance.

Yeah I understand, I'm just balancing the benefits out with the other races. You make a good argument though.

Re: [Hunter] Changes to MoP Talent Trees, Best Hunter Race, and Gyrofreeze Ice Reflec

With that 140 frost resist from dwarf racial and LW, what % resist does that put you at?

Thanks

Re: [Hunter] Changes to MoP Talent Trees, Best Hunter Race, and Gyrofreeze Ice Reflec

~45% minus the 70 spellpen most people have = 28% overall dmg reduction

But you can also enchant cloak and head with 20 fr, which comes to 110 frost resistance and about 40% overall dmg reduction

Alright,

Beast mastery gives access to Roar of Sacrifice (RoS) in both the cunning, and tenacity pet trees, Due to the extra pet talent points gained from Beast Mastery - Spell - World of Warcraft, Whereas Marksmanship and Survival can only gain access to it via a tenacity pet, Preferably a Scorpid, For Clench - Spell - World of Warcraft, Or a crab for Pin - Spell - World of Warcraft.

Just be sure to avoid all the muffinhead's still running with spiders, thinking they are the 1# pvp pet. They may be strong at 80, or 85. But as it stands, it's better to opt for a tenacity pet in the 70s bracket.

Just thought i'd stick this out there. As said, too many muffinhead's are still using spiders, or cats. (Shudder)

Re: [Hunter] Changes to MoP Talent Trees, Best Hunter Race, and Gyrofreeze Ice Reflec

hunters getting point blank shooting is the biggest buff of all. mages won't fair well blowing all hunter CDs and standing on a hunter's toes like they do now

panda hunters with the sleep racial will rock

Indeed, which may possibly mitigate the loss of Master's Call.

I'm going to ignore the last part (not a panda lover :/)

While it is a buff, It does certainly take something away from the class, Much like the auto-shot on the move change, as i see it.

As for the panda racial sleep. Eeeeeeeeeeee. Pandas.
