How To - Free Name Change!

1) Delete character you want name change on

2) Create new character with same name as deleted character

3) Make ticket on alt or main stating you "accidentally" deleted your character and would like them restored.

4) Wait x amount of time, your character will be back with the original name and a series of numbers to make it an invalid name, because its already taken.

5) Select the character, type a new name in and enjoy.



Rinse and repeat as many times as your want :rolleyes:



this is for the people who didn't know this



edit - some GMs will change the name of the character with the name of the level 1 you create to reserve your name. Like most things with GMs, its trail and error. I suggest making a trail account if you want to attempt this, rather than on your main account.
 
are you sure that this works? because i desperately need a name change on Dethknite ...



i just don't want to delete him then have them say that they know all about this and refuse to restore him ...
 
Well, to avoid that, you could always register a free trial account. Make Dethknite on that new account so it doesn't look like they're related, and then follow CIHC's method.
 
wouldn't they delete the trial dethknite? i thought blizz didn't care about f2p accounts and see them as expendable...



would someone confident enough in this please do it and take SS's and post 'em here? just for people looking to use this in the future and myself
 
I have never seen Blizz just delete a toon before, regardless the reason. They'll ban/suspend/re-merge/etc, but I doubt they'd ever just delete it just because it was a trial account; that represents possible revenue for them.
 
I have deleted my chars many times and restored them while i have a char with the same name, this does not work..

Edit : Ohh never mind, i tought u ment on the same account.

And yes blizz are willing to delete inactive chars that are frozen at the time, i do it all the time.
 
Doesn't work. When you delete a character, the name stays in the databse for 90 days. So you cannot make another char called that name, unless ofcourse, you wait 90 days.

My whole guild used to use this method before the service became available. Now they're more picky about it.

They (the GMs) have absolutely no right to perma-delete a character. They have to restore your character if you ask for it to be restored. Even with some bullsh!t excuse like "hurpdurp my sister got on my account and....". They still have to restore the character, granted you may get in trouble for giving her access to the account. If it doesn't work, you can have this thread locked and me banned for however long mods see fit if your main doesn't get restored...



Give me a bit awesome, I'll provide more s/s's of my main being restored... Stupid wait time ;)
 
Didn't work with my P2P Account, a fix for this maybe to make a trail account and put the name of the main character on that account, and make a ticket on your main account. Like most things that involve GMs, its mainly getting the right GM.
