How To Communicate With High Level Characters

Just to add to the thread... I did some testing some time ago with a DK and a f2p level 20 on a separate account.

Level 20 could see DK's custom pet name, DK couldn't see level 20's custom pet name (it just showed the default name). There seems to be a level-difference limit for pet names like there is for /s, so don't just stand there with your pet waiting for a whisper. The higher level can only see the pet's name when you point (or use any other emote) at the pet.

Also companion pet names aren't unique. You must have chosen a forbidden name if the system didn't allow you to change it.

Most people don't even read emotes. The best way really is to just ask a lowbie to ask for you. Either that, or people that have you on their friends list. I've never had a problem getting anything I needed, including a HH kill for the title, that took me more than five minutes to find someone willing to help.

I know people that spent hours spamming emotes with no result. People think emote spammers are bots or don't speak English or something like that.

Well whatever works for you. But its not just for asking 90s for help, you can also use it to complement the opposite faction on there gear or weapon etc.

Its a little more then just spamming an emote ... The emote is just there to bring attention to what you are trying to say.

Also, lowbie P2Ps aren't always going to be everywhere, even with CRZ. So it nice to know there's a way you can communicate other than by emoting.

You sure you had your DK with "show pet names" ticked in interface options? Just want to make sure.

Also, no I didn't type anything forbidden. I only used letters, no numbers or symbols. Don't know why typing "Agm Chest Plz" would be forbidden.
So i assume someone else has taken it.
I think hunter pet names are the ones not unique.

I have no real testing proof other then my limited experiences with the naming issue. Some names work other don't.

I'll try some testing when i see a P2P to help me with it, hopefully i can give more insight into what works and what doesn't.

But so far I haven't had any issues, even complementing 90s on their mounts who are of the opposite faction.

If I am online I will personally get you a port to Shattrath, I did it a few times this week.

Yup neon hooked my mage up w/ a port thanks again xD

Both had the exact same options enabled.

And I didn't mean "forbidden names" as swear words or anything like that but some words are blocked for some reason. I believe I tried to name a pet "Whisper Me" or something like that and I couldn't but I eventually named that pet "Whisper Please" (and it's still on the account linked in my signature) and it's working fine. I also double checked it before I wrote my previous post and I named the exact same type of pet (companion pet, not hunter pet to be clear) "Whisper Please" on a different account, same realm - no issues.

Ok, well that's interesting.

Im curious how many people that are not F2P would even get what your trying to convey with the suggestion about renaming pets. I personally never knew that you couldn't communicate with higher level toons. You would think someone that has been playing since vanilla would know this lol. I also never pay attention to other toons unless it's pvp related.

It's certainly better than just standing there being a mute. Plus it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what "whisper please" means.

This issue of 90s not seeing what we type is exclusive to Trial Accounts. P2P lowbies can communicate with 90s no problem.

Yes, because you said the lvl 20's pet name didn't appear for your DK, but the DKs pet name was visible for your lvl 20.

Yeah, then it's not the case. I have the option off at all times but it doesn't affect names in any way. When I said that the name didn't appear for my DK I meant that it showed default pet name on mouseover or when I targeted it even though the pet was renamed.
