How to change your font in WoW without addons

Since most font addons are out of date or don't work that well, I started doing it manually.



Step 1: You need to find which font you want. Go to http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts.html and search through the pages until you find one you want. After you find it, download the .ttf file from the link under the font you want. I suggest downloading the file to your desktop for now.



Step 2: Create a folder called "Fonts" in your WoW directory (C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft). Right click and select "Create new folder".



Step 3: Make 3 copies of your .ttf file, so you have 4 in total. Rename each of the files to the following: "ARIALN", "MORPHEUS", "skurri", "FRIZQT__" (2 underscores). Drag them into your Fonts folder. These 4 file names control 4 different parts of your game (chat, combat text, etc).



It should look like this:







Restart WoW and you should have a new font!



To undo your font change and revert back to the original WoW font, simply delete your Fonts folder.



Note- some of the fonts look cool, but end up looking terrible in WoW because they're too small/italicized/etc. Feel free to try different fonts out until you find the right one.
 
Cool, I've always used Clearfont2 to do that but now this will save me addon space. Is there a way to only have the player nameplates a certain font? I like my chat and other stuff to be blizzard version.

each of the 4 files controls font for a different type of text. i dont know which one is for nameplates, but you can try testing each of them to see which parts they change.
 
I've discovered that the font that controls player nameplates is FRIZQT__ but unfortunately that also controls tons of other settings, such as chat text, log in text, etc... which looks ugly when used with a big font. Anyone know if it's possible to have it only display Name Plate text?

hi there, i know it's been a while since this thread began, but can you guys tell me if you know how to change the font for the Nameplates (the ones that are above character and NPCS).

The 4 files in your fonts folder control different areas of text. I don't know which one controls which, but 1 is for chat, 1 is for combat text, 1 is for names, etc



Id just change the font for all of them, then delete 1 file at a time until your nameplate font changes to figure it out
