How do you play your warlock =D!

So basically i made this thread to just have plain warlock to warlock player convo's. I want to know the Benifits of your play style and why you like it.

Mainly because when i go into the 19 bracket i want to know a few kinds of play style for what situation because this is sadly my first warlock above 13 =P.

Thanks all, and happy PvP.

I play very situational. It depends on the mood. (am I in the mood to just bust out dps and hks or do I want to run/return flags) I don't mind doing either, but it's a mood thing. There is also the matter of support. If you have a strong team, you are not going to have to do as much to help win.

I am known as a crowd diver in a strong pug though. I will jump right in vs the entire opposition and dot each and every one of them while I have heals behind me. I will also bust my CDs too. I do this to slowly keel em all. If I help in getting 4-5 deaded before they cross mid, then defense won't be so tough when the rest show, if ever.

One of the patented moves I do in pugs is grab the boots, streak down the tunnel, grab the zerker buff ( hit blood fury if on my orc) and crowd dive solo. Dot up as much as I can, bust CDs, then most of the time, die... rez, hit the FR and then travel down tunnel to meet the same group that deaded me before (or what's left of it if they had no heals). Dot em all up again, rinse and repeat and hope that once they make it to the FR, they are almost all dead. Weird strat, but in strait up pugs with little orginazation on either end, it actually works quite well. (and my damage is through the roof by the 3rd death)

I don't mind dying as long as I get dots on most. I gear to where my SP is pretty high still and with less hp now, I can get most down pretty nicely.

Now on offense, I fear much more than I do mid or on D. If I have help, I try to keep the FC close to my DPS help. If he has a healer, I try to keep the healer CCed as much as possible. If the FC is a dps class, sometimes I try to keep him feared while I work on the healer.

Like I said to start though, it's all really situational.

Very nice strat, i am going to have a full time druid heals on my side, hes also gonna be FC for me. Hes also a RL friend so i will never really be by myself since i always play with him.

I have to fully agree with Drayner here. My lock is actually 29 but I pretty much do the same thing with the zerker buff. Run in and dot everyone. If I get the chance of going at them with a huge grp, I dot everyone, and then I fear the healer around if they have one. If they don't have a healer then I focus on the hunters. I dot em and then start fearing the strongest and working my way down. A lot of people say locks dot, dot, run but I don't see how you can do that. I love jumping in the middle of the group, dotting everyone, and then living as long as I can. Even if I die, which I do often, they're still gonna die unless they sit there and eat.

Hey, I just thought I'd comment on some more aspects of a 19 lock. Drayner basically summarized how I tend to play (though I tend to be a bit more defensive) and like him, my playstyle basically depends on my mood.

Against a large group of enemies, assuming I have support, I usually strafe (E and Q) around the bulk of their army, all the while dotting them up. I usually dot any healers first, followed by rogues to prevent stealth, then hunters, then other classes. If I have a good healer on my team or none of my opponents attack me, I usually focus on the enemy healer. Hopefully, my allies will do the same, but if not, I find that locks can keep a healer at bay long enough to allow the lock's allies to take out the bulk of the healer's team. Arcane Torrent provides an additional tool for shutting down healers, and Fear, even when met with an insignia, will keep any single target out of a fight for an extended period of time.

Against one enemy, such as in duels, the technique is pretty strait forward. Against any class, the basic strategy is to cast both dots, then Fear, then follow up with either Drain Life if you've taken some hits, or Immolate, Shadowbolt, or Searing Pain if you are near full health. A good opponent will have an Insignia equipped, and will probably use it as soon as you Fear. Be ready for this.

Also: some classes have abilities that will interrupt your spellcasting and silence spells of that school, such as a Rogue's Kick. If you get caught with a kick while casting a Shadowbolt, Fear, or Drain Life, all of your shadow spells, including Fear and your DoTs, will go onto cooldown. This is BAD. A warlock without shadow spells is a warlock with almost no potency. Fearing an enemy with such a move before they reach you is one way to prevent this. Another trick that I've found to be effective is to start casting fear when your interruptin' opponent is near melee range, then to cancel it half way through. Often enough, your enemy will was their interrupt which you aren't even casting, which will allow you to follow up with another, uninterrupted Fear.

I have a question for some of you other locks out there: which DoT do you cast first? Corruption or Curse of Agony?

Oh I forgot to mention. Trying to avoid being killed, eh... For me, that doesn't happen. For some reason, I have hunter's marks on me before I can see a single opposing player. Maybe it's just me? I tend to get focus fired A LOT. Former team members have commented on how they love playing with me so they don't get attacked. :(

Good stuff from the other guys too... good stuff. Don't tell him all the secrets though. :)

I seem to go corruption. No particular reason why, but with the improved corruption glyph, it works out. Just in case I get sheeped, feared, etc... I got that one on them. If I am dying, I try to get as many long running COAs I can on as many as I can before I bite it too.

Dang, i didnt expect this much help =P. But anyways thanks alot for all the info all of you, and that gave me a basic play style for a lock and now i just gotta put it in to test in the BG's and etch and add some stuff depending what i fell better playing.

Thanks all.

Yay, I do the exact same thing. Before the glyph, it was CoA first all the way, but now I want to give myself as much chance for an instant cast shadow bolt as possible, so Corruption first it is. I also do the CoA-before-death thing: if I'm at low health with no hope of survival, I strafe toward my nearest allies and CoA everyone in sight. I add corruption if I manage to survive long enough to do so, of course, and I have a fond memory of resurrecting on top of a GY camper and immediately getting an instant cast shadow bolt, which critted, killing him instantly. Good times.

there are some exceptions but this is my general play:

don't stop running ever. only to fear healers

tab 1(coa) 2(corruption) repeat, LOS is NOT needed for your 2 instant dots

auto run on always turn with mouse

imp out for wsgs on defense or passive depending on situation

VW for arenas on angry and spam consume shadows before the stealthies are out in the open

herbalism will save you more times than you can count.

the most fun part of being a lock is seeing your opponent kill you, then the dots kill him afterwards :D

and as many people have said, try to spread the love. dot up everyone, makes your dmg sky high.

when I'm on my warlock I'm able to get some kills against fully twinked classes just with skill. On my warlock I was lazy and just used tailoring and enchanting to get my gear. when I fight I DoT everything I can and fear one and focus wanding on him...

Tab Dot Dot lol. Maybe a fear here and there.
