How do I prepare my main for cata?

I plan to lvl up my main to 85 asap, and I was wondering what I should do to prepare. I heard about some people grabbing some quests in Storm Peaks and such, completing them, and wait till Cata before delivering... but isn't the quest log gonna reset?



Anyway, my main issue is, where do I start lvling up? I assume I should be logged of at the mount trainer to get my Azeroth flying first (how much does this cost?). But after that, what do I do? Some people has told me Hyjal will be the place to be, but how do I get there anyway?
 
how do you get to hyjal? the guide said set hearth to SW...but shouldnt it be in darnassus or something. unless you get ported there after the heroes board /shurg
 
I don't know about recent changes but isn't there an entrance to hyjal through that shitty demon place in winterspring where priests farmed stuff for their staff in vanilla?
 
On the beta there were ports to hyjal, vashj'ir and deepholm in sw and org. You pick up the starter quests from the board in sw/org then go from there. The ports aren't present at first but as you do the required quests they appear. Once you get to hyjal and vashj'ir you can get a flight point and fly there. Deepholm you need to port there though. I didn't try, but you may be able to get into hyjal by ground mount but i'm not sure. Once you get up in levels then you can go to twilight highlands and uldum. Uldum you have to get there from tanaris as it says in the guide. I actually started in vashj'ir because of its awesomeness but hyjal is recommended as the 1st zone to start in.

so is it not good to do both start zones, xp-wise. in lk i did both start zones to smooth out the lvling process and it worked great for my two 80s....just wondering if it would be a decent idea to do hyjal and vasjhir(sp) instead of going into deepholm at the bear minimum lvl...and keep in mind im not going for realm 1st 85
 
I did both vashj'ir and hyjal before anything else but i was mainly questing for all my xp and gear with the occasional dungeon. BGs weren't operational at that point of the beta. After that i went to deepholm then uldum and twilight highlands. If you jump straight into deepholm i think you will find the questing difficult there unless your a paladin, warrior or DK maybe. If you farm the first dungeons abit for better gear you may be better equipped to tackle deepholm earlier but personally i enjoy questing the most as you get to explore all the new content and get all the flight points etc.
 
Thanks for all the help guys... but would a frost mage do fine in Deepholm? And is the queues gonna be horrible? I'll probably not be on untill 17:00 or so, how long queues should I be expecting? My server is pretty crowded. This is kinda off-topic, but will skinning provide a lot of profit in cata the first few weeks? I'm considering picking up skinning, could use some gold.
 
im logging on around 12pm est, then chilling...doing last minute quests, etc until 3am where ill get the heroes board quest and teleport to hyjal. then ill do vash prolly...even tho im sure i could handle the quests as a feral. but i had good experience doing both start zones in LK...really smoothed out the lvling process. and if any guildies are on ill be doing some dungeons with them as well
