How are 80 Mages?

So just leveled a mage up to 80 and i have a few questions

-How do Frost (Or fire) mages do at level 80?
-Are we considered to be ONE of the best in the 80-84 bracket?
-How's the damage (pve/pvp)
-What's a good class to do 2s with?
-Stack mastery right?
-Anyone got a good mage armory i can check up on?
-Do 84 mages counter 80 mages?
-Best professions?

-And if there's anything else you think i should know about let me know

PvP or PvE? Fire in PvE is the best DPS spec besides maybe affliction, by a huge margin.

For PvP, you're probably better off being a balance druid or shadow priest.

Really? mages are that bad in PvP? i thought we would global people with procs lol

You probably could, but it's getting those procs vs other classes who could global you before you get them.

Fire mages are incredibly potent but personally I'd counter one in the arena by opening from stealth with a swifty and popping cools into a moonfire/sunfire instant surge, you'd be dead unless you immediately iceblocked. Woo for 80 arena.

As Splosion said, Boomkin or SPriest is pretty much the way to go at 80. Although when the new resilience change goes, anything that can open from stealth/invis or just first will win a match.

Yay for the 409s! That said, Awesomeyo was able to burst me down in fire CC without any, so there's more of an issue than just that.

WTB cataclysm PvP back, it was far better than this, almost everything was viable besides like...enhancement/ret.

Fire mages are really, really strong in PvP when played well. You get can insane combustions which can kill 90's. My brother has a level 80 Fire mage and I watch him play all the time. He often beats lvl 90 PvP geared peeps in duels, it's insane.

We'll have to see. But good chance yeah. 75% hit comes in handy when farming lvl 90's in Pandaria
