Hit cap for melee classes?

go here. The melee info below is for single wielding. Note: There’s much debate as to whether these formulas still work post-Cataclysm. Until there’s hard evidence saying otherwise, I’m sticking with the formulas.

Melee Hit

Against another level 20 player, it’s 5% using this formula: 5% + (Mob Level – Your Level) * 0.5% (12 hit needed).

Spell Hit

Looks like this is more of a chart than a formula. On an opponent four levels about you, you have a 20% chance to miss (4% chance on another level 20).
If you use the same calculator, you need 37 hit on casting gear (or 8 hit if I’m up against another 20).

The below chart is lifted straight off of Zalambar.com.

Here’s another chart to clarify a bit. It includes level 25 opponents as some PvE bosses are level 25 (not that you should consider that though).

To clarify on the Night Elf opponents, they have a racial that makes them 2% harder to hit with melee attacks.

thanks solv for the fast response

If Im not mistaken, for dual wielders, its higher, so extra hit if you dual wield is nice

If the difference between the mob's level and your level is less than or equal to 2, then the formula for calculating your base miss rate against that mob is:

 • with single-wielding: 5% + (Mob Level - Your Level) * 0.5%
 • with dual-wielding: 24% + (Mob Level - Your Level) * 0.5%

 • with single-wielding: 2% + (Mob Level - Your Level) * 2%
 • with dual-wielding: 21% + (Mob Level - Your Level) * 2%

When dual wielding you white hits (both MH and OH) have a 24% miss chance against opponents of an equal level which makes hit past the 5% soft cap roughly equivelent to crit. Rogues and shamans will see more poison and FT procs and warriors will gain more rage with additional hit. Each point of hit rating will tend to increase your damage more than one point of crit.
