Hello there Stunggix, i'm no good mage at all but here is a few tips that i think would be better.
Two new trinkets (Tidal charm, AgM, PvP trinket or Heart of Noxxion) is needed.
The game atmo is really bursty and since mages lost a lot of their survivability (no mana shield and R1 FB) i would highly suggest you getting as much HP as possible (close to 3k).
To help you go close to the 3k you could change your shoulders to Inquisitor's Shawl from SM, getting a pair of Necromancers Leggings, you can change your bracers to Firwillow wristbands for +2sta -1 int, and also Noxius Shooter would be better.
You also want to aim for the hit-cap. Dont really know what it is for spells.
Regarding profession, I would say Mining/skinning or Mining /Engineering. If you do decide to drop engineering use Embalmed Shroud.
I'll say it again, i'm no mage-guru and those tips are personal. So i might be totally wrong.
