Guilds killing WoW?

I'd have to say so, between having to suck a guild leaders cock for legendarys/loot, guild whores who happened to be on their period that day you got kicked, and elitist guilds ruining the game for casual players by rejecting everyone who isnt in 100 item levels higher then the raid requires i'd have to say, yes, guilds are ruining the game for the most part.

anything I'm missing?

I think it's not the guild, but the elitist jerks that hurts the game.

A guild itself doesn't hurt anything, it's when some elitist behaviour is made towards them, that it hurts the game.

IMO

What bank said. One of the guilds I was in had an "argument" last month during a Sunwell run after T6.5 pants dropped and two DKs could both use the pants. The argument was over the DKs trying to give the pants to each other. A good guild has members looking out for each other. But the same guild is also (correctly) wary of mooches. My point is, guilds are important, so take your time and get to know members of the guild before joining. Guild membership is not a small choice.

A good guild, especially the one Bwappo referenced, is what makes this game so enjoyable in my opinion.

I spent about 75% of Burning Crusade wearing Primal Mooncloth/Frozen Shadoweave and passing on gear to my guildies until they were outDPSing my shadow priest

.

Then when we got to Naj'entus in BT I was fucked since I didn't have enough stamina.
