Grey gear discussion

Good morning everyone! (don't care about your time zone, it's 12:50 AM while I write this)

So since a while, I made a grey stuff character for fun (a Kul Tiran Druid with the name of... Greystuff (Originality 101)) on my F2P account. Miss only the rings for now, but overall it was a great challenge (to farm and PvP).

Druid is a good choice for grey because of the overall utilities your have (mount, heal, forms, stealth, etc.)

I want to make one on my vet account, and having more choice at disposition (like Nik-Nik's Slicky Sticker and Dookin' Ookin' Quaterstaff), I would like to discuss possibility that can be done (Race, Class, etc.).

SO! let's our brains heat and let's discuss about possibility for a possibly real BiS full grey gear!
 
Yeah i'm on it for my f2p... a real pain to farm it!
 
gotta find a realm were "Gandalfthegrey" or some variation is available for name.
 
For BiS, depends what you consider yourself as "grey stuff character", in one sense it can be having only grey armor items, on another you can consider enchants on them.
First case is pretty easy to find what's BiS, just going with the maximul ilvl available. Personally I'm going on the second way, as the enchants allow for some more variety in the equipment/set used, as well as a tiny bit more viability in PvE. And well, it's just fun to have different builds.

On another note, I'm really disappointed with Blizz regarding grey items. 99% of the grey items have appearances from Vanilla or Burning Crusade. Every expansion they just reuse the old outdated models for greys.

So yeah, grey characters (or also often called "unstuff" characters by the EU weirdos) have really classic vibes on their appearance ^^

No sir, but slapping around some Bramble Surv Huntard in gray's....... Bard's will sing of your exploits for years to come.....;)
 
For you information, the highest ilvl I could get from gear is 27 for armors and weapons. I get those at Drustvar (Nazmir could be use too, but WoWhead says that the best drop rate come from Drustvar).
The Armors require level 16 and Weapons, level 18.

I don't know if we can get higher ilvl from grey armor... (excluding cape btw)
I would need to do test do answer that!
Edit: I got a leather piece in Cataclysm zone, and the level required is 21.
So for a level 20, 30 zones can't be farm to get those!

ilvl27 gear is from any lvl25 mob.

The places it happens naturally when you're level 20 are:
- For BfA: Drustvar / Nazmir
- For MoP: Townlong Steppes
- For WotlK: Crystalsong Forest / Hrothgar's Landing / Icecrown / The Storm Peaks / Wintergrasp
- For BC: Netherstorm / Shadowmoon Valley / Isle of Quel'Danas

Different zones have different sets available, allowing for a wide range of tmog choices
BC sets are my favorite for now (at least on the mail sets, as I'm hunter, my interests are biased)

Also, don't trust wowhead on droprates for greys, upon my testings it's widely variable, and some greys drop on zones and on mobs they are not even supposed to, don't trust the droptables. Sadly one of the only way to confirm anything in this niche gameplay is to go on the spot and farm (or to find nice GMs and discuss with them on those useless items :rolleyes:)

In Legion / BFA I had a full white set, a full green set, and a full blue set for funsies (I wasn't able to complete my epic set until SL.)

I was turned off from the grey project when I was unable to find any grey trinkets. Closest I could find were the white trinkets from classic engineering.
