Me and a buddy just got into 59 twinking, wondering what gems we need for str classes? I see on armory a few people with 6str gems, how are those obtained?

6 str gems are crafted .... they are super easy to get and most AH will have them but if you are poor may be expensive. I charge like 2k a piece for them, but the raw gems are listed all the time for <5g ea and the recipe is not hard to get.
There are two options that scale the same, (https://www.wowhead.com/item=40111/bold-cardinal-ruby and https://www.wowhead.com/item=32193/bold-crimson-spinel). Crimson spinel are generally easier to get and cheaper
You will also want one nightmare tear as that will be 6str/6stam for you. This will probably be significantly more expensive as it requires at minimum 5 JC tokens (4 for recipe and 1 for uncut gem). I charge 15k for these
And if you use the meta helmet you can get the meta gems (https://www.wowhead.com/item=41400/thundering-skyflare-diamond https://www.wowhead.com/item=25893/mystical-skyfire-diamond) that give haste proc. Personally i like goggles for the consistency. These will probably also require you to get them yourself or they will be expensive since no one buys them except twinks.
I think 6 str gems are best and it's not really close in terms of damage output, but some people prefer versatility, so that is an option to play around with if you wish.
If you are doing some gimmick prot build then you can always have a stam set as well.

for anyone playing agility or intellect classes stormwind/org pvp vendors sell +5agi/intel and +5 crit gems that are almost always bis. There is also +7 intellect gem from hellfire pvp tokens (which you get from the daily quest of capping the different points) and nightmare tear but you can only get 1 of each.
