Gemming for F2P

I'm new to XPO, so bear with me.

I skipped BfA, SL, DF due to starting a family, so I'm a bit hazy on how gemming now works. I've seen other F2P 20s with rare iLVL 84 necklaces with three gem slots. Some have straight stat gems, other have what appears to be special gems from SL. Can someone help/explain how this can be done on a 20 FTP character? I'm working on slot gear from TBC, but I'd love to learn how to add extra gems to necklace, rings, and even trinkets - all of which I've seen on others in dungeons. PS - I don't have an active vet account, so I won't be able to turn on adventure mode for unlocked rare mob drops in higher than 20+ zones.

you can add gem slots to necks with DF jewelcrafting, add gemslots to rings with TWW jewelcrafting (you need active sub with TWW purchased) - but most regular dungeon drop/rare mob drop rings can proc 1 extra socket as well. trinkets with sockets are either coming from BFA one-time rares (see @DoByG guide on them) or they GF’d dungeon drops (in BFA, trinkets could upgrade with a gem slot).
welcome back!

The War Within F2P Baseline Guide doesn't explain how to get the necklace sockets.
Here is what you need to know for f2p 20s:

1. you need to get a suitable necklace for adding the gem sockets. Most common choice is this https://www.wowhead.com/item=200210/amnesia

2. For adding the 3 sockets. You need this https://www.wowhead.com/item=192992/tiered-medallion-setting.

- You need to level alts (must be sharing warband bank ofc) for DF mining and Jewelcrafting. You may subscribe for a month and buy everything off the AH. But what is the point of playing f2p by skipping all the challenges with a month of subscription? So i'm assuming you are a pure f2p without a sub.

- Mining is to provide you with all the Jewelcrafting mats. For Jewelcrafting, select the Setting specialization for crafting the Medallion Setting

- With this you can craft lvl1-3 quality medallion setting. You need lvl2 quality for adding the 2nd socket. Lvl3 for the 3rd socket.

Detailed steps described here:
https://xpoff.com/threads/tiered-medallion-setting-quality-3.100445/

3. For gems, normal +4int/agi gems could be purchased from PVP vendor in main capital city of each faction. Not sure about +3str. But I assume it could be done. For other special combinations (e.g. +2int/+2ver, +2agi/+2haste) , you need to craft them by leveling Northrend jewelcrafting. The steps are described in other posts/youtube guide.

Note, that +2int/+2cri, and +2agi/+2cri gems was available from the PVP vendor too in previous expansion. Not sure about the status in TWW expac.

If you really think all the above steps are too much for you and u don't want to subscribe. An easier alternative is a quest reward:

This part right here, that you quoted but apparently didn't read, should make it pretty obvious that you'll need to level JC to craft the medallions on your actual twink.

The good news, for you, is that since your twink is on a linked account with your paid account, you can just drop the necessary mats into your warbank and then your twink will just use them as they level. no muss, no fuss.

wow-professions has a bunch of great prof guides but perhaps the most useful feature is the mats shopping list for each prof.

currently trying to get the mana etched shoulders and gloves (cloth) for the gem slots and set bonus on my druid, any tips, f2p
I would choose Mantle of Perenolde and Deft Handguards. Effectively getting more armor and the same total stat points.

Edit: Mantle of Perenolde would be for lv15+. If you are doing lv10/11 then yes, the cloth armor would give more stats with set bonus. As pure F2P, you will need to befriend a high level player that you can group with to get Legacy Loot mode
