Frost Mages and Haste

I've been looking over gear both in character profiles and on wowhead and I've come to a predicament in regards to gearing my mage. I've seen a lot of talk about postmasters and the set being BiS for casters. However, I've seen few people actually wearing it and even some people skipping out on the 5 piece bonus (10 int 5% run speed). I made a quick comparison without enchants on wowhead and heres what is shows including set bonuses.

So the question is, how good is haste for a frost mage? The set roughly nets the characters a direct exchange of 18 stam for 18 int which is fine for a stam set and an int set but the thing i've been thinking about the most is the trade of a ton of crit for a ton of haste. I'll probably end up making both sets of gear but I just wanted to see if any other experienced mages had opinions of haste vs crit.



Also, how big of a difference would the 3% run speed difference between postmaster and boars speed make?
 
Well as a frost mage, you want to look at getting as close to 33.33% crit as humanly possible (I don't believe that's possible at 49s) in order to push your crit chance while your target is frozen as close to 100%. Most frost mages are rolling in a crit build that seems more effective than haste mages.



You might as well roll with Boar's Speed, or use the AB boots. IMO, the highest speed increase you can get, you might as well have it.



I think that people aren't running full postmasters mainly because they want more health than what postmasters can net them.



But yea, crit > haste until your 33.33% cap.
 
realistically once youre at 60-70 crit with shatter its almost overkill....i know i wouldnt try to hard cap shatter crits at 33.33, id rather get other stats like more stam or haste, but thats just my theory on it.



as far as speed, the 5% isnt that amazing b/c like tai said you can just get AB boots or another pair with boars speed since both of those options give 8% run increase and do not stack with the set bonus



oh and another reason people might not be running full (or close to) postmasters is just b/c the set can be annoying to farm, weak excuse but its plausible. honestly your set comparisons look decent and id make both sets to experiment with it.
 
I think 49s can come close to getting 25% crit, probably less than that though. Abs roams around 22% unbuffed I think. Unfortunately that's with about 0% haste and no postmasters.
 
why do people spec frost when you can cast scorch on the run? blast wave and dragon breath.
 
im lvling a mage (53 atm) dual spec frost and fire, i prefer frost so much more. heaps of control over enemies while hitting hard on nonfrozen enemies, frozen ones you just blow away
 
Well thanks for all the info guys, i really appreciate it. I think frost has always been the king of mage pvp for a reason. It has more control, cc, and survivability hands down over the other two specs. It also has much more reliable burst in the form of shatter. And I'm guessing Abs is referring to Abstracted? I found him on armory and i like both his spec and gear set up. Is he a pretty decent twink?
 
Abstracted is probably the current resident mage expert for US 49s. I usually go to him when someone asks me a question about mages that I can't give a solid answer.
