Fresh F2P 20s question

Is it worth starting a fresh F2P 20s now since a new expansion is on the horizon?
Correct me if I'm wrong, currently BIS gear is Blues from TBC dungeons, right?
I used to play few years back when BIS were Epics from WOD with a chance of upgraded version (Warforged or something), and at least for me, that seemed more aesthetically pleasing having a full epic set as a BIS.
There's still no info from PTR or anywhere else about what will be the next source of BIS?
Also I've been reading about remix and timewalking, and I'm not sure what those are, anyone mind explaining?

Remix was a limited time event in which one could start a brand new character in a revised version of a certain expansion. So far there have been two remix events: Mist of Pandaria and Legion. These only get you started but your character will return to the current expansion/patch.

Anyway in summary a brand new character is limited ---

1) You do not get a fully unlocked bank, basically you can unlock three/four of the six tabs.
2.) You do not have access to the Dragonflight Tier Medallion to open three slots on a DF necklace. So you have fewer necklace with slot options.
3.) The current guide is https://xpoff.com/threads/the-war-within-f2p-baseline-guide.100275/ * with some modifications.
4.) There has not been a change to if The War Within becomes the Starter Account, but there are hints that it may be as a few Midnight features were unlocked but it is not clear if a bug or via Linked Veteran [[a Starter/F2P Account that has another once subscription or retail account on the same user account ]].

Current BiS is socketed gear from Burning Crusade and Northrend as well as any socketed ring/trinket/weapon from random drop in various expansions.

There are a few weird items that have been bugged and may not be that way if dropped in current patch - https://xpoff.com/threads/bugged-gear-thread.103305/page-3#post-1337367 but these may be useful as ilvl 37 but so far just a weird ilvl.

Timewalking is also a event in which certain expansion dungeons are available for finding ilvl 26 gear.

There is also Lorewalking by talking with the Lorewalker in some of the major city hubs, if which one can experience certain content but this is currently buggy as in not also working like before the prerelease patch.

Ty for explanation.
I was thinking of creating a brand new account to start fresh with no achievements or anything.
I also have an old account that I played legion on. Does it count as veteran or does it need to have had a current expansion?
So far it seems I should just wait for more updated to see how the meta would change with the new expansion...

If you use the Legion or a new account is should upgrade to the current patch with everything into Dragonflight and pre-release Midnight patch. There is a bug with some as mentioned but hopefully by 12.0.1 patch it should (lol) be better.

I took the same decision as you, like 2 months ago. Now depends if you are a PVP or PVE player. I, myself, am a player more on PVE side and for that reason I can say that it's worth it. If you are more inclined on PVP side, it's a shit show at the moment. Incredible long queues and everyone is doing 1-shot kills...
Now everyone seems to be upset with 20s in general. But I remember the days when we rocked a 10 gold cap, gear from 2-3 instances, and very limited PVE options. And now when I logged in and found all these new options I got access to, I was like a fat kid in a candy shop.

I would say, that if you like PVE, collecting things, solo dungeons, questing, events ,.... take the leap.
God speed, brother!
