EU+US First F2P - Anything to know?

Legend
I'm coming back to play retail after a long break. I've not played since about a month after Legion was released so I know about some of the larger changes like how equipment works (though I think people were still figuring out the intricacies of it) but not much else so I just wanted to ask a few question.

Are there any classes/specs that are unplayable (I don't mind playing something that's not top tier but don't want to be a limp dick)?
Does it matter what server I role the character?
Is there anything I need to note about the new gear system?

Thanks :)

Uh, fire mages are pretty awful? Tank specs are garbage. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand thats it? Everything else is at least viable in some respect.

I think Aerie Peak is still the US server of choice. But no, not really.

Instanced pvp ONLY cares about item level. Your blue quest rewards and boss drops will be 6 levels above your character level. IE, at 20, all the blue gear you get will be ilvl 26 with one exception. Reward crates from winning BGs will sometimes drop ilvl 28 gear.

In the last few patches, Blizz has added a number of boss drops in low lvl dungeons that fill slots we havent had access to before. So, plate and mail helms, neck, a full slate of rings, etc.

What this means is, to get BiS for BGs you really only need to grind dungeons at 20 until you have an item for every slot.

just fill every item slot with an item, without gfd gear or fishing trinkets you wont be close to ilvl needed to break the roof for it to make a difference. Just fill every slot, if you're a caster use a wand.

Every class has atleast 1 strong spec, some like priest and druid have 3 but yeah just go with whatever class you want.

If I understand correctly and it's your first time making a F2P toon, yes there's a lot to learn but most of it is just subtle nuances. Some tips off the top of my head -

- we "bank" gold by buying stacks of Eternium Thread before our actual gold caps at 10
- you want to buy and equip faction reputation tabards and wear them in dungeons as soon as you can, first you should get Exalted with Orgrimmar to make the aforementioned Eternium Thread cheaper from the vendor, then you want to level all your faction reps to revered to get the faction bags
- you should roll on one of the populated twink servers, especially if you plan to use the F2Paddon to chat with fellow twinks

Walnut stock allows for more gold per stack. I think the thread is 150 or 200 gold per stack but walnut stock is 250.

Not that it REALLY matters but if youre trying to bank gold while preserving bank space, it could be a factor.

Right I forgot if a better one had been found. I stuck with Eternium because I found it convenient to be able to sell them off for smaller increments of gold and also because I already had the stacks going.

Haha, yea. I was buying the blacksmith mat... elemental flux? for a long while and I kept a couple stacks around just for that reason.
