Farming for a shadowfang on F2P, is it possible?

Hey guys, ive heard of 2 f2p accounts with a "shadowfang" one is a nelf hunter/warrior (I forget) called "luccarelli", and a hunter called "swiftbow".

Now swiftbow said he got his shadowfang from inside a chestbox fishing in a pool in "ashenvale",

So I just wanted to know, is it possible to farm for items like "shadowfang" or "assassins blade" (items which I thought were strictly lootable only in shadowfang keep) In chests in level 15-25 areas. and in fishing pools ect as a world drop. is this true?

if so is it an item worth farming, is it worth/possible to farm for 2 shadowfangs even if it takes a while, or is it really something not to waste my time with. Im really bored outside of my PVP ques seeing as I have nothing to do at the moment so is it worth doing this? is it even possible?

And also I have a feeling twin shadowfangs with both instant poison would be good dps for PVE or dungeons for f2p rogues. anyway yea.... please answer if anyone has any insight on this?

Once AOE loot goes live shadowfang and other zone blues will be abundant and the price probably reduced to 2-5k. Pull the entire instance to Walden's room, AOE Corpses, Not miss a single corpse, you're guaranteed a shadowfang or another zone blue at least every 24 runs, and a lot of people will be running for it now that they can't miss a single corpse.

So to answer your question, it will be likely (yet time consuming) to farm a shadowfang for your f2p (don't know why you would want too) if you have a level 85 run you with FFA loot turned on. Just have to worry about bag space, but with the coming of AOE looting they'll probably let us filter what we loot otherwise it just wouldn't make any sense to add an auto-bag filler to the game.

^ That's what I was saying "(don't know why you'd want to)"

There's a horde quest drop that looks like shadowfang if you want it for the transmog, but outside of that it's taking up bagspace or gimping you if you actually use the thing.

To answer your question is it farmable? Yes, could take a large chunk of your time but you can generally farm them in low level zones mentioned above and in SFK. But as Mialo put it, it probably wouldn't be worth it since it's not even bis. Sure it has a nice proc but it's not really anything special in this bracket.

Aero loot won't affect Shadowfang's availability or its price, seeing that it can only drop off the bosses in SFK, not the trash.

It can drop off of most mobs in SFK. I've seen it drop 4 times in the 6 years that I've played just running pugs, 3/4 drops weren't from bosses.

AOE looting will effect how often it drops in the sense that you'll be able to loot every mob in the dungeon without trying anymore. For every run through SFK the average farmer misses around 3-7 corpses. The price will drop because the item will become more common on the AH. AOE looting will also cause runs to go much faster, not stopping to individually loot each mob.

I'm not arguing, that's just basic math.

Either way, /thread.

Edit:
Further research of the matter shows that when GM's check the drop table "I did check it, all it says is SFK" which means it can drop off of every mob in the instance.

It only drops off bosses 21 and above in SFK. ANYWHERE ELSE IT DOESNT DROP. If it DID drop somewhere else, it was pre-Cata.

If you do ever obtain the Shadowfang. Start trying to sell it. Make them pay your subscription or whatever gets you hard.

I know people that have done several thousand SFK runs and not seen a single SF. Some people still manage to pick one up on AH very cheaply. It does still drop and is still possible to get, but it's very difficult. If that sounds like too much hard work, give up. If that sounds like a challenge, then by all means accept it.

For people that don't understand why you would want a SF, it is BiS for agility stacking hunters, although not in MP. It is now, and will always be, BiS for TM and to show off to 19s and make them cry. Especially fun on a caster with a SP or int chant.

I've seen one droped in SFK like 2-3 weeks ago but I passed on it since I'm F2P paladin and have 0 use of it ( I can't wear it nor sell it).

I consider TM on my BoA sword, even as ret, to be more useful than some leveling noob equipping it for a few levels, or selling it for a few gold. If they know what it is, and have a main, then it's just gold to them. The 20 will always have the SF and will still get more use out of it. Now, if you were running with some 19 rogue twinks, which I've done quite a few times, I could see passing. If someone needs, it becomes SB, so no selling.

No.

Shadowfang can only drop of 5 mobs (the ones 21+) so it would take you 10000 runs in average to get 1 (and that is if RNG is on the friendly side).

One does not simply farm Shadowfang.
