This is a baby agouti, native to central america. Their local name is Tepezcuintle (cooler than agouti imo) and they're related to guinea pigs.
The species mostly exists in the wild but this one is a pet Tepezcuintle, which is good for him because the alternative is to be a dinner Tepezcuintle. Along with being agricultural pests these critters have the misfortune of being delicious.
