F2P Mage Bug?

I recently started playing my mage again, fire to be specific, and I've noticed that I miss my spells close to 50% of the time. It's pretty frustrating, and on top of that when I actually land a spell it barely does any damage. Fire is bad. But seriously, is it bugged or do I just need to stack hit?

You'll still need the minimum hit cap of 7%.

But it seems hit rating is still bugged. I don't really know how it works, or what you could do against it, but it still bugs.

5.2 introduced some new features, such as level scaling in battlegrounds (and stat scaling on BoAs as well) but introduced some bugs to go with it. Some, such as secondary stat scaling, seem to be fixed, but others, such as spell hit, seem to still be broken. It's not you, it's a bug. Hopefully it will be fixed "soon".

Alright, glad to know it's some sort of bug. And thank you guys for the quick response! My main concern with the hit, was whether to buy the honor boa staff, or the JP boa staff, I almost have enough JP now, I hope it's not a waste.

Hello Ronjenkees, i noticed this on my Mage as well, the hit rating is all messed up at the moment, thankfully i had hit gear before patch... 3 things i recommend you to get to help this problem are the 'Staff of the Elder' (Honor points staff) for the 7+ Hit, and the 'Rune of Perfection' (purchased from PvP vendor in Ashenvale) and finally the 'Flying Tiger Goggles' for the 4+ Hit. if you have all 3 of these items like me you will find that you never Miss the poly on them god damn Huntards ;)

The 'Rune of Perfection' is 10+ Hit. And i prefer the Honor points staff over the justice points staff. i have both and have tried both in numerous BG's... personally i prefer the extra Hit rating over Crit and the Int. i use the 3+ int enchant on my staff and always have wizard oil or wisdom. so it evens out sort of. i missed attacks which needed not to be missed with the justice staff. (Maybe i will go to justice staff after bug is fixed... doubt it)

I rather just remove hit from PvP entirely, it has barely any use after some point. I rather have DW/spells/2h classes have a fixed hit rating in PvP.

on my 20 monk i have... RoP, drake wing bands, heirloom chest, and heirloom head. clash still misses unless i equip a weapon chain

You now need 26% hit for spells to never miss. This is not possible on a mage, but is possible on a priest.

Spell hit is broken, and there is no indication that Blizzard even knows or cares about this issue.

Someone posted in a thread earlier with a link to the wow forums where a CM mentioned they knew it was a problem and would be addressing it. That being said, my faith in Blizzard is not high and at the best I would imagine a fix in 5.3.

Mages and Warlocks are currently unplayable. I sure as hell won't be playing until hit rating is fixed.

I stopped playing my disc priest because I get murdered by the increased melee damage in 5.2 without consistent fears and roots (Divine Fury doesn't affect shadow spells).

Are you just having a problem in battlegrounds or overall even with npc's? It also may be helpfull to link your armory page, for some specific advice on easy hit gear to get, like LolipopF2P did with the suggestion of getting Rune of Perfection which is a very good idea.

They fixed divine fury? At one point it affected all spells, but i mostly stopped playing my priest in mop so Im not up to date.

The problem is patch 5.2. You scale as 24, BUT for hit you'll still be a lvl 20 against 24s. Hope that Blizz fixes this for caster, so that you are a 24 against 24s for hit.

Honestly, I haven't even tried to attack a non player target, I guess I'll have to check that out when I get home, Here's my mage's arnory: Savagescorch @ Aerie Peak - Community - World of Warcraft

I've got the hit, it's definitely a bug I miss all my spells about 50% of the time, it's retarded haha

Actually, the problem is, that, not only is hitrating still calculated as if you were 20, all the other players (p2p 24s and f2ps alike) are considered 24 in return, so no matter what you face, you either get 26% hitrating (impossible afaik) or keep missing.

Thanks, this is really good to know, I am going to be gearing up my mage so I am glad I found this out before I started going wtf in my bgs.

I have read all the posts on here and i can report that on my Mage (armoury on link below) i never miss spells. i dont know if your characters are bugge but if you try the hit gear i have i think you will find there it isnt a problem. i almost never miss spells.

You have 21 hit which would be ~10% hit once scaled to 24 as well as a flat 1% for being a goat which is 1% regardless of level. Spell hit cap is 6% so you'd be well and truly over the cap if this was working as intended. You say that you almost never miss, well that's not good enough. A miss can mean the difference between winning and losing a fight, or a game.

The real issue is that some spells are missing much more than any other spells, and that's not something that was happening before this patch. The idea was a good one, but as is so often the case with a new patch, it's been poorly implemented.

I 100% totally agree, the Hit Rating DOES need to be fixed, I said what I said because its not fixed, and this is the best way to deal with it for a Mage. For some reason, the only spells which ever miss for me is 'Polymorph'... (Bummer)

Frostbolts and all the other Spells never miss.

You are right. However, until it is fixed, this is what Mage's Should Gear if they want to Hit (Almost) all of their Spells.

Hopefully Blizz will Hot Fix this and not leave it until 5.3. ^^
