F2P Fang set

Just making a F2P Monk.

1. Is there any reason to break up the fang set even if you find whatever epics you can... other than just looking cool?

2. Or is it just better to go with vers items from BGs?

3. Did not really see an armory link that looked up-to-date for a true F2P non-vet.
 
1. No, esp as F2P it would be next to impossible. Maybe if you get epic Sooth and you can make up the int with chants but as F2P probably not.

2. On BG items that aren't the fang set, you want haste/vers.

3. Yea not sure, you just want fang set and epic Stocks helm would be nice. Unless there's a haste/vers leather one from dungeons. Alliance have a vers one from Stonetalon I believe. Epic Foam for wep.

The neck will be different, since that one is cheating. There is a high vers neck from AV vender to buy, but I dont have any timewarp badges on this character. Also, you can farm a foamspittle, get luckier than I on shoulders, and upgrade the bracers. This isn't a BiS example, but not a terrible example either.

For professions I keep enchanting to make wizard oils.
 
I think *maybe* Epic Soothsayer with Pants, Boots and Legs of the Adaptable and then using fang gloves and belt might be better than the full fang set. But thats just theory. I dont know anyone who has the gear needed to test it.

as a shaman vet I can and it’s not worth. Very little dps gain and big stat loss. This is w thorb enchanted, runechain, chain legs enchanted or adapt legs, adaptable feet or lynx, soothsayer epic.

Op as a ftp you maybe would drop set for vers heavy items if you have a healer with you and are holding flag and are like crossing mid against rogues, like epics with vers/ bg gear. For the stam/ vers over healing power. etc. idk.

You'd need full adapts and epic sooth, then use belt and gloves, theoretically you pull out a TINY bit ahead but you lose out on a lot of crit and haste, the balance that the full set provides is nice af.

In theory you're tankier and do bigger heals, but lose out on like 10% haste probs. Wouldn't be worth on an hpal but it's an interesting idea to entertain on a shaman.

part of the build is maintaining the 2 piece set bonus with the gloves and belt. Which, for a F2P monk, might actually be worth it. And remember, this is a f2p monk, not a vet shaman.

If you run Epic Soothsayer with adaptable pants, chest and belt, you lose 11 int, 17 haste (ouch) and 4 crit (lol). But you gain 7 stam and an astounding 27 vers.

So the question becomes 11 int/27 vers. For bar napkin math, we use 1 int = 2.5 vers. 11 int is worth 27.5 vers. Damn close.

Thats... probably not worth it if you're trying to keep a team fight alive. 17 haste is really hard to give up. Ive never healed on a monk but I wouldnt give that up on my druid. That said, its a hell of a tanky heal set or FC set. I didnt realize how much more vers that was till I sat down and worked it out. Thats a stupid amount of vers.
 
As a FTP mw monk, I can tell you you cannot play like a vet monk, and so you dont gear the same either. Very rarely will you be perosnally sturdy enough to comfortably roll into fights and drop damage, so you stay on the outside and you use rolls to disengage with. With a safe playstyle, witch you will need to play with, Fang set will just do more for you. Even on a perfect vers set, it will not make up the difference in your loss in haste imo. Because you are not up in fights as often the surviveability aspects of vers are not utilized as well anyway.

Anyway, this is just my take on it from playing the class as FTP, I could be off as well though since I dont have a perfect vers set to play with :)

Even with goggles and full chants, is it really that much different? I mean the stats and the hp don't go up that much, you are making it sound like you can just double-tap roll into to whatever and live? I don't see how that is happening?

But, does that amount of verse really matter? Not sure how that actually works in the 20s... is that like 2x as much survivalbility or can you just take 1 more hit than normal and *maybe* sneak out of a situation once in a while where you otherwise would have died?

I rock a full ass vers set (been using more aurora / fireflash lately to switch things up,) it just depends on your playstyle and shit. If you play like me, you can make it work, if you play like a heal turret, it won't work as well.

Im not terribly concerned about doing the math to figure out exactly what 27 more vers does in terms of mitigation, especially with the hit secondaries take in instanced pvp. But 27 vers is substantial. My F2P druid (so similar gear to a F2P monk) has 77 total vers and I stack vers like a mad man. So 27 is more or less a third of that. Might be as much as 50% on toons with more balanced gear. If I went from 77 to 104, thats a really, really stout increase in damage reduction.

That said, vers works as a percentage. And losing 17 haste lowers output, which means the vers is less effective in terms of healing and DPS. If I lose healing, am I actually tankier in situations where i have to heal to live?

There are times when vers stacking makes sense (im holding the flag or trying to solo defend a base until reinforcements arrive) but that depends entirely on class, play style and circumstances.

A fully chanted MW can roll into fights and drop dmg then roll out and heal, a FTP does not have the health pool to survive well against Vet characters. In bg I will have 1500-1600 hp vs a Vet with 2k hp. That is allot more stam(not even counting other other stat values), its not insignificant and it does give you more options to play agressivly. A Vet monk can certinatly (and many times should) roll in to contribute their significant burst dmg, then roll back out if they need to disengage. FTP monk does not have the option to play as agressively because they can die if they get locked dwon in a bad spot without even having the chance to really respond. Goggles and chants deffinately do make a significant difference, and although FTP monk can be a very good character and contribute allot to a game, they will not perform nearly as well as a Vet (as is the case for pretty much and class)
 
As a F2P monk, I find that Chops' equivalent of 1 int = 2.5 vers makes sense - primary stat is basically king. However, people discount haste too much. MW is a HoT-based healer, so you double-dip haste (more casts/gcds PLUS they tick more quickly), thus haste is more beneficial (in terms of healing output) than vers. Loss of 11 int + 17 haste in exchange for 27 vers is unacceptable.

If you wanted swag and performance, you could reroll for khaz modan shoulders and stonetalon vers headpiece. Then rock full fang and epic foamspittle.
