F2P Arena Skype Group

Broken

Legend
The idea came from Cotus's ol' thread. A few friends and I thought it'd be a good idea to start a group on Skype for arenas. It'd help us stay connected and co-ordinate arenas. Because there's like quite a few f2p-populated realms on EU (e.g. Spinebreaker, Twisting Nether, Aggramar, etc), a lot of people interested in arenas are spread out on different realms. If we found a way to talk to each other, like through Skype, we could decide to all log on one realm or try to make x-realm groups.

For those who don't know what it's like, it's basically a group chatbox. Skype has the option to use a Mic but it isn't necessary. So, if you don't have a Mic or you're shy (like me) then you don't have to worry.

I know a lot of people won't want to throw their Skype info on a public forum like this. So, I'm sharing my own username on Skype, which is hassan3x6. All you gotta do is send a friend request to it or you can PM me on TI. Make sure you mention that you're interested in the Arena group or I may confuse you for something else!

I'd like to keep the Arenas friendly. Sure, competitiveness is cool. But no assholes, trolls, elitists or generally annoying people.

Lets get some arenas started people! O:

I'm about to make a EU char I think. I guess best way is to DL EU client? I want to be able to use US client as well though. =/

You don't have to sit through a download. :)

Changing your Client
Choose one:
  • edit your client and edit it back after, or
  • if you have the room, do what I did: copy the entire installation into another folder (called WoW 2 or something).
In the copy / in your client open the file Config.wtf in the WTF folder in any text editor (I used a code editor because Mac TextEdit screws code up sometimes).
Programs > World of Warcraft > WTF > Config.wtf
Find the line for your region:
SET locale "enGB" (or SET locale "enUS")
Change it to the region you want to play:
SET locale "enUS" (for US servers, or SET locale "enGB" for EU servers)
Save the file and that's it. :)

Why the hell skype?! The quality is horrible. Go for TS3 - put the data for the server in here and it's all done.

Skype is just more convenient, I guess. A lot of people already use it, for purposes besides WoW too.

Do you mean quality of calls? Even if it isn't better on Skype, it's decent and I've had no major problems with it. Plus, I doubt we'll do a call in that conversation. 10+ people on their mics at the same time is gonna be a huge mess. :0 But if the majority of other folks prefer TS, then we could always switch to there.

lolipopp, I sent you a request!

Goesid, I tried to send you a request too. But I'm not sure it was the right person. Throw me a request if you didn't get it.

Soldjah, gonna need you to toss me a request, bit easier that way. Grats on Vet, though! =o

We've got like 9 people in there so far. Hopefully, we'll have the people to get arenas going on tonight!

EDIT: Managed to send you a request, Soldjah! =o

We can try doing x-realm groups! If we add a 3rd person in your group, who's from one of our servers, then it'd be possible!

But arranging p2p's for it may become a problem at times. Do you have a p2p available yourself? We could maybe still manage if you don't but it'd be a huge help. You could also try making an Ally toon on Twisting Nether / Spinebreaker or a Horde toon on Aggramar.

It's quite easy to set up TS servers so that either only people can join chans that are allowed to or only people talk that are.

Some folks might as well just join TS for curiosity - listening, then maybe accompany your arena teams. Besides it's easy to join several servers at the same time.
