Elemental Shammy questions.

Hi guys, I've recently been thinking of getting back into twinking, for oh so many reasons. However I've had a really tough time deciding what class to roll, I initially chose a rogue (as my sig still probably says - on my phone and cba to change it yet). I made my choice based on what heirlooms I already had, a decision which I regret. I would like to play a class/spec combo that's not so common, but might have potential. This led me to an ele sham! (terribly sorry for the long intro, but context is important, no?).

TL;DR - I was wondering what any more seasoned (and currently active) twinks think of ele's viability. I have access to every BoA, should have little trouble getting an AGM on my server, Deathwing EU, and I'll have enough money for all my BoE needs. I imagine the damage is reasonable, control is average but playstyle is fun. I'd greatly appreciate any input, oh and I'd be looking to xfer to Draenor on completion of my twink; would you guys from BLNT and all the other crackin' guilds on that server consider an ele?

Thanks!

Aszune will gladly take you! we're looking for a shaman to complement our ranks ^^

I was thinking about it actually, I've just been looking at your recruitment thread :)

Would you consider ele competitive with some of the more common classes? Such as rogues and mages. I'm not expecting them to be fab vs hunters...

I've seen some great ele shammys, but the tend to function as a support class. If you're in a guild and roll with guildies then yes, it's competetive, for solo queueing though it ends up being frustrating. If you're intention is playing with a guild then I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.

Well said. Pretty shitty solo, pretty good in a group.

Doesn't have to be with guildies, but if your pug group has a team mind set, then you'll be all good. If you are left to try to do things alone, GL staying alive.

Shaman's are essential, Thunderstorm by far the best support ability in the bracket. Purge is also one of a kind. 2X ele shamans/mage/priest/holy paladin would be a great D.

the strengths of an elemental shaman is indeed, being a support class. purge + knockback + WS, its all win if you use it correctly. and also disco, contact me if via sources given in recruitment thread :p

Thanks for the quick responses guys. The utility is what attracts me most to the class, it'd be nice if I could pump out a little damage when needed aswell of course :)

And yeah Chill I'll get in touch, I'm just going to focus on honour-grinding on my main for a day or two first though! Is it pretty tricky to get AGM on Aszune btw? My mates aren't on enough to really help me out with it on Deathwing.

Also, what are everyone's thoughts on gearing? Should I be going for a reasonable balance between Stam and Int (which is what I thought) or go glass-cannon? And how important is it to stick to leather? Is it worth missing out on 1 Stam or Int that'd be found on a cloth piece? Thanks again!

Since you have a shield, using some cloth gear isnt that big of a deal.

Yes, you need STAM - Shamans have a hard enough time trying to stay alive even with the stam.

Make sure you are hit capped at 4% for spells, do it which ever way you want with your gear.. everybody does it different it seems on shamans.

Yayo at least you werent me...went horde when they were in game and forgot to get them....yah...

how? jutebraid are the 9 sta 6 int correct? the loss isnt THAT big between that and gold-flecked

Well for a BiS set it is, but I know, its not much.

I don't know to much about shammys in the level 19 brackett but there's a video on youtube of a level 19 dwarf ENHANCMENT shammy on there.....type in level 19 shammy twink....rvstar is he's name

Do not worry to much about not having 1 piece that is BIS. If you are playing ele it's more about support and style than having the best gear. You can make up for the loss of jutebraid stats easily with boas.

Gloves will not add hit rating or anything.. which honestly.. Thunderstorm from the roof with hit cap = a good shaman

So, think of it as having maybe a few less stam and int, but being just as viable as any other shaman in the bracket..

SURE a shaman may live after a battle with 10hp, in which you would have died in - but lets be serious.. how often does that happen?

You want to play a shaman? Roll a fucking shaman...I've played a 19 shaman since they were concidered underpowered and useless, and guess what? Myself and a few other shamans such as Bone, Dirtyauction, Farmthis and Velricc started a revolution full of shamans who wanted to learn how to play a class in which was concidered useless

I'm fucking trashed right now so I hope this makes senese

Peace

this, only, i'm no Che Guevera of shamans.. it sucks that you don't have your GF'd gear, and neither do i, but i say suck a bag of skill.

i'm going to quote Barney Stinson now; "Whenever i feel sad, i stop feeling sad and start being awesome. true story."
