Does anybody else do this?....

Do you theorycraft gear sets & stats in a notepad somewhere?

Until recently I was just saving wowhead pages of note and information here in my browser favorites... and then 2 days ago my new computer up and died. I think the scribbles method might be better, I'm now doing everything on my old one.

Nothing I currently cant access regarding WoW matters really, but doesnt do much good in a $1300 paperweight either. ;)
(not really a paperweight, just not sure what's broke and likely the GPU so screw trying to get one of those right now....)

Thats why we boomers use usb storagea for our porn and for twink info. Atleast i do. I have 1t usb just to save what i want.

Got like 20 random .txts on my desktop at least that make me look like a mad man.

Most guides I've written (back when I actually wrote them xd) were/are first drafted in a Notepad doc.

That's me. .txts stacked inside folders inside of folders. A quarter century later, notepad remains my composer of choice.

Used to do it for PTR testing. Tons of finds, comparisons etc. etc. Some I published, some I didn't.

Did it A LOT for Fighting games when I cared a lot. Combos, frame data (most important one) etc.

In Mortal Kombat X for instance I used to know almost every move by their number, now I just know from visuals what has gaps, what's safe, what has a lower startup than my main characters x,y or z string etc.

I too have dappled in Theorycrafting. But its more simple than most people did here. Its mostly wearing many variety of gear with variety of stat builds (Mastery highest% or vers highest% or Crit highest% or Haste highest%) while testing the spells overall lowest damage output and the highest damage, lowest crit damage and highest crit damage. And compare each build in DPS and overall damage in a time duration.
Like 2-3 min to do the entire rotation of a class (Warlock) and see which build affects the damage output positively.
When doing those time stop duration I can determine which build has a good burst or a long lasting damage for long fights.(I repeat the process 5 times to also determine the average damage while using trinkets that have a % chance to proc and see whats better)
But in the end, I just resort to haste/mastery hybrid which kinda throws away all the spread sheets I do.

yes, I actually wrote down every vers/mastery leather piece of gear you can get from quests/rares/dungeons. I wanted to see how strong I could get envenom via dfa with this stat setup. I would post my notebook like chops but my handwritting is really really bad.

Fun fact I only found 1 belt available at 20 thathas vers/mastery on it ( not including crafted since I havent bothered looking there yet) Its from a quest chain in karasang wilds.
