DNS lookup failure

Hello Dears,

I`ve heard complaints about being unable to access TI from several people already, while I can do this all fine (obviously), so I`ll just assume that TI`s suffering from a DNS lookup error of some kind, which usually results into the former observed phenomenon.

Just that you`d know,

Yeah, here we go, the domain registration for TI just expired earlier today, I`ve written an email to Shane notifying him about this already.

Code:
Domain Name: TWINKINFO.COM
Registry Domain ID: 1407394784_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.tucows.com
Registrar URL: http://tucowsdomains.com
Updated Date: 2013-11-01 13:57:10
Creation Date: 2008-02-21 20:36:45
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2014-02-21 19:36:45
Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
Registrar IANA ID: 69
(TwinkInfo.com WHOIS, DNS, & Domain Info - DomainTools)

To continue using TI, do the following:
Navigate to /etc/hosts (It`s under C:/Windows/system32/drivers/ for Windows users), and insert the following entry:
Code:
216.70.98.61 www.twinkinfo.com

This is a personal workaround that will overwrite the results you`re getting from your DNS server.

Any idea when this issue will be fixed? I am able to get on the site on my phone, and 1 of my computers, if I use google chrome. IE and Firefox both get DNS failure on both of my computers.

it doesn't make any sense. If the domainregistration has expired then why does it work for one browser but not another?

yes. tried that too.

also just tried deleting browsing history, cookies, etc again and a reboot. still doesnt work.

Hm, thats strange.

Have you tried using another DNS server?
Or tried the workaround in my 2nd post?

I tried the flushnds and clearing browser cache and it didn't fix it for me either. btw still waiting for any kind of response to my point.. why if it's the domain registration expiring that causes this does it still work for some browsers but not others? If you access it by chrome I'm pretty sure that doesn't change the exiry date. Perhaps chrome caches the ip for faster browsing and firefox doesn't? But the problem with that is if i use the numeric ip for TwinkInfo.com Portal | World of Warcraft WoW Twinks [216.70.98.61] i still can't get to the site. Any dns issue should be solved by using the literal numeric ip directly in the address bar shouldn't it?

I tried the work around, and it told me I didnt have authorization to save to that file, lol. I also tried what thubble said with using the actual IP address in the bar, and it took me to a server default page

also, thubble, I can only access the site on Chrome on 1 of my computers. on the other computer, it DNS fails

Start up a notepad with administrative privileges, you`ll be able to overwrite the file

Ok, got the workaround to work. Had to go jack with some system settings as it wouldnt even let me open it like that, but it is working. Still very perplexing why its doing what its doing.
