Disappearing Quest-giving NPCs?!?!

So I looked up the coords to do the quest "Shore Leave" Shore Leave - Quest - World of Warcraft , went to them...... and nothing was there!!! Double checked everything, wondered if it was perhaps a phased quest? But no, it's a one part quest. So I;m sitting there raging, and I run away from the area a little bit, and I CAN SEE HIM RIGHT THERE! I can click on him, blah blah, So i run back to get quest..... and they all disappear again!!! WTF?! Sorry If this has been brought up before, If it has anything to do with it I'm still downloading shit in background downloader, but If I can see them at all they must be scripted for me already.....

TL;DR: Questgivers only visible from distance, disappear when I go closer?!

Sounds like a buggy phased quest.

To me it seems pretty obvious its not just a single quest when the quest description reads

"We're looking pretty good here at this point. It's definitely been a pleasure working with you, soldier.

If you're ready to take the artifact back, we've got a Gyrocopter ready to take you back to Bilgewater Harbor so that you can deliver it to Uncle Bedlam personally. "

does it sound like a quest you can just pick up, take a trip in their gyrocopter, turn in and get a blue reward for doing?

Could you possibly not be so snippy? And yes that's what Wowhead and the Cata gear thread is telling me. If you know something why wouldn't you try and help me out? Or am I missing something obvious when the NPC isn't there?

he's just saying, however unkind, that the quest is based off of a chain! for instance, Triumphant Return - Quest - World of Warcraft says that the chain starts with AHHHHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHH!!! - Quest - World of Warcraft, but it actually starts far far earlier, with some quests from the local magistrate. it's a much longer chain than wowhead claims - the database is still in the process of sifting out what used to be on the cata beta and what's working on live, so not everything is entirely accurate.

in this case, it's looking like there's a bunch of quests in a chain that you need to complete in the area that has commander molotov and the rest of the bilgewater battalion. try completing those quests first, and see if the followup eventually takes you to the quest that'll get you your blue!

EDIT: it took me like 2min on wowhead to get a hold of (probably) the whole chain so Ill go ahead and post it just for fun

1. We look at the quest you wanted to complete and there's a "provided item", Heart of Arkkoroc

2. We click that item and then "object of" and we find the quest Still Beating Heart, since it doesnt show up as either a chain quest nor does it have any comments, we'll just go ahead and click the guy who starts it, Captain Tork. then we check what quests he ends

3. We find the quest "Field Promotion" and we check who starts it, now we've backtraced it to a guy called Lieutenant Drex

4. Then we check what quests he ends, which are Mop Up and There Are Many Like It, since he also starts Mop Up, that cant be the one we're looking for.

5. We now check the only quest he ends without starting and we find this quest chain startin with Operation Fishgut, which starts from a recruitment poster

6. Then we read the comments and find this

I don't know which one triggered it though.

Also, Chaos 5061's list really helped me out. The recruitment posters did indeed not become active until after I'd completed Profitability Scouting. And it makes sense: the quest giver for Profitability Scouting is from the Bildgewater Battalion, which this posted is recruiting for. And doing that quest softens up the Nagas enough to make this operation possible.

There you go...

from operation fishgut to shore leave takes maybe 1/2 hr. when the questline on beach stops, just do the quest in the same area where you help wounded soldiers...that'll take you up to captain tork. at captain tork you have to finish all quests in that camp to move on to shore leave.

i dunno if the poster for quest operation fishgut is always there. i started at north org gate and did all the quests out west and around the lake before i headed out there to try and pick it up. that part took maybe 2 hrs.
