Cross Realm looms before WoD

In the latest 5.4.2 PTR build, we are testing the new ability to mail account-bound items to other characters on your account that may be on different servers. Notably, this should allow you to move heirlooms between servers, in advance of our planned Warlords changes that will make them fully account-wide.

Sending this sort of mail should work like any cross-server communication: You send the item to "Playername-Servername" and it should otherwise work like regular mail. Note that you can only send account-bound items, and not other items or gold.


Example: I have a character, Thrall, on the Benedictus server. I want to send my heirloom mace to my alt, Durotan, on the Lycanthoth server. I'd log in as Thrall, and attach the mace to a mail addressed to "Durotan-Lycanthoth" and hit send.


We'd appreciate any feedback or bug reports on this new feature so that we can address any issues prior to the release of 5.4.2. But even without direct feedback, just logging into PTR and mailing account-bound items across servers should give us useful data to help confirm that the feature is working as intended. Thanks!

Intresting stuff, shame its nearly taken them 1-2yrs to finally implement this. It kinda seems counter productive as we've waited so long for this only for the system to be replaced once WoD hits :/ (k maybe not fully replaced, other items such timeless isle epics are still account bound for example)

"sending" the looms isnt the problem, receiving them is :/
btw i dont want to open a new thread, does anyone know if they add new heirlooms with wod? gloves/boots e.g

I think you'll still be unable to open the mails on your F2P. Unless you pursuade a GM to do so.

was the item you mailed enchanted by chance? i'm curious if the enchants transfer with the item?

will test it tomorrow anyway, using a cheap enchant on a item

if they worked the same as cross faction mailing, then they should retain the enchants.

Tested and works great!

Tried today, was able to send np, was not able to receive on the trial account, now looms are stuck in mailbox limbo, sent a ticket waiting on response will post with answer from GM.

Follow up: GM returned the mailed items back to the sending character but did not answer the question of being able to send BoA to F2P or not. I asked the question again and resubmitted the ticket will post results when answered.

I wasn't able to catch you while you were online today, but I *do* have some information for you about mailing heirlooms to another account.

While it's certainly possible to mail BoA items to another starter edition account, because the starters don't get access to the mail you won't actually be able to pull them from your mailbox until the account is upgraded to the standard edition of the game. So in the scenario you described you wouldn't be able to use them for your twink on a starter edition. A starter account is designed to give players a taste of the game before they buy, not necessarily to host twink PvP characters, etc.
