It'll take a while before the event comes but one vanity item you really can't go without is Romantic Picnic Basket. It's fun when you use it in a BG and folks from both factions sit around.

The vanity items in MoP are now available to f2p. Just ask a mage to port to shrine and help you farm them.

One of my favorites is my "Goblin Weather Machine - Prototype 01-B"

It puts a cloud over your head that does sound effects. Works everywhere in the game. Can be used at the same time as your abilities, so I macro it into my resource builders.
