Computer geeks, I need your help!

My PC blue screens and crashes anytime I go near northrend, dalaran and high population areas. Short of getting a new box, how can I fix/mitigate this?

I'm not very well edumacated when it comes to this sort of thing, so any advice given would be much better received in very bitesize chunks :)

As it is i cant lvl an 80, get BoAs or do many other lovely things.

help plz!

how much ram do you have

Let's start a little more basic to help our friend Kore here...

What operating system do you have?

Windows vista: go to 'computer' > click on 'system properties' at the top.

Windows XP: go to 'computer' > click 'view system information'

There should be something that says 'X.XX MB/GB of RAM', the MB or GB of course depending on weather you have millions or billions of bytes of RAM, and the X being a number. It should also tell you CPU frequency (in GHz) and how many cores you have. For Linix, MAC OS, etc I have no idea, but I would look for something along the same lines of 'computer' or 'system properties'.

RAM of about 1 GB or less tends to be highly unstable in Dalaran and other such places, and I have seen a variety of things from shutdowns to freezing to DCs happen in those circumstances, so that might be the culprit. I have not been able to experiment much with the effect of CPU speed on Dalaran, but I'm assuming that if you don't have dual core, then loading all the various characters, textures and whatnot can bog down your computer really fast.

Hope this helps^^

760MB of RAM, From what youve said it doesnt look exactly tasty tbh. What can i do to increase this? Delete all the crap from my PC? or is it just how the computer was made?

if you take the side cover off of your comp, youll see 1 or 2 1x5"ish cards plugged into your motherboard. thats your ram. to get more, you have to find out what type of ram your motherboard needs, and go out and buy that type of ram. all you have to do to put them in is turn your comp off, take the old one out, and put the new ones in

heres a pic so you know what it looks like

760mb may have been fine back in the day, but in wotlk zones where theres a lot more going on, it drains your memory like crazy. youll probably need at least 2gb of ram to run through northrend zones smoothly. should only cost you about $30 if you decide to get 2gb

cool. cheers. i'll take a look at wow-europe to check what level of ram is advisable. I'll also find someone i trust enough around computers to take the side off it for me or i'll end up making it worse.

if you can, get the person that helps you to put your ram in to show you how. knowing how to build a comp is a pretty important imo

You may be able to go into the WoTLK areas with your existing hardware if you make your settings as low as you can.

Check your wow settings and make sure you have things set to the lowest they can be...

To do this, after the game launches, do the following:

- In WoW, click on the icon that looks like a computer (options);

- then click on video. Should default to the resolution tab;

- In the resolution box, change the resolution to the lowest you can (800x600 or lower).

- In the multisampling box, choose the lowest you can x1.

- Select Effects on the right;

- Pull your video quality to Low;

- uncheck all four boxes at the bottom (spec light, death effect, full screen glow, proj textures).

I have this other PC which for some reason is a pile of poo, its technically newer than the one im trying to upgrade the RAM on but its had so very many more problems than this one so someone else took the executive decision to chuck it.

Anywho, ive been trying to steal the RAM from this one, my dad has said that not every PC can support various amounts of RAM. How do i find out whether my good PC will support the RAM from this other one? Are there generally any compatabilty problems other than the amount of RAM a PC can take?

Give me 2 secs and i'll try and get any relevant info.

Edit: I found 2x 512MB cards in the PC i took apart. I have yet to open up the one i want improving. Will i be able to stick both of these cards into the PC to get another GB or should i just fork out the £30 for a 2GB card?
