Cataclysm: Reforging

I know this is not only for 19's - but since most players look here, i decided to put this here!

c/p from Wowhead.com

Not much information has been released about Reforging at this time, but the general idea is that it will allow a player with an armor-oriented profession (such as Leatherworking, Tailoring, Engineering, etc.) to customize existing items by re-allotting the item's existing stat points. They will not be able to add stat points to an item (that is, if an item already has Strength they cannot take from another stat to add to Strength), only to re-assign existing points, and this is intended to make an item that would not normally be desirable to a particular class or spec usable so that it would not have to be disenchanted. Some highlights of the feature:

*

Customize your gear

*

For Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers, Tailors, Jewelcrafters, and Engineers

*

Reduce one stat for another

*

Some restrictions apply...

Since the expansion is removing many non-base stat attributes (such a spellpower) an item could be entirely changed in its function by switching all of the points in one stat for another. For example, if a leatherworker is in a group and a leather item with 30 Stamina and 30 Intellect drops, and the leatherworker is a rogue, the idea is that he would be able to change the Intellect on that item into another, more useful stat (such as Agility) which would then make the item practical for use. At this time, the idea is that each profession will only be able to augment stats on items of its specific armor type (so Leatherworkers would only be able to modify Leather items, Tailors cloth, etc.). In addition, Engineers will deal with trinkets and jewelcrafters with amulets and rings.

- This might be a big change for 19's.

Oh yea, take a look at this also:

Blizzard has stated they have plans on making the gathering profession perks (such as Master of Anatomy and Toughness) more compelling and useful to everyone.

Well they need to remove the level caps on profession buffs. My level 1 twink misses his extra 500 hp.

I dont think its only going to effect the high rank.

i believe that they stated that you will not be able to reforge ALL of a stat and you will be unable to reforge stam. Also they said that they are planning on a 2:1 ratio, so 10 int would become 5 agi. It honestly seems so restricting that I find it hard to believe that it will be useful in our bracket, I mean 8 stam/2 agi/ 3 spirit green tinted goggles are still worse than fishing hat

The 2:1 Ratio alone makes it seem underwhelming even at 80, the stats at 85 would need to be astronomically high in order to make an 85 Int purple more appealing post reforge to a rogue against even a lvl 75 Agility quest blue... much less a level 85 quest blue. I see those numbers being changed post launch to make reforging useful to any extent in the manner that they apparently described. And if they decide at some point for 1:1 Ratio, then by god my Rogue will be raiding in a dress! A big blue one!!!

If we can't drop stam this has gotten a lot less interesting, was going to have an AGI hat instead of a stam hat. >_>

Would you value 7/8agi equal to 15stam?!

in a recent blue post, they talked about reforging.

they said that strenght agility wasn't going to be able to be changed, and that it was really 2 for 1.

that said, it is easy to figure that base stats wont be able to be modified. thus forget about switching strenght for agi, or stam for agi, or whatever base stats you wanted. its going to be more like crit rating, haste rating or hit rating.

for 19s it really means more hit rating which is good.

Nice to hear.

But yea, maybe its going to be a lot easier to get hit-capped.

I would still value 15stam over 15/16ap anyday.

Then you're not a good rogue, once you're at around 1100 HP more stam becomes redundant, and its not 15 stam, it would be more like 8 agi for 8 stam which is a pretty good trade

You're right, i am not a good Rogue, infact, i am not even a Rogue.

Regardless, only an FC or CC Mage values stam over any other stat on a 1:1 ratio, warriors/paladins would prefer str. Rogues/hunters would prefer agi, priest/warlock/druid/shaman would value int SP or mp5 over stam. The argument is moot because reforging does not seem to be a way to reward people who want greater itemization (like being able to take +8 agil pants and being able to turn them into 5/5 monkeys) but more as a way to allow class to share more gear at endgame so in the end I don't think that the bracket will see much benefit from it.
