Woah, what a long thread. Need to clutter it up moar.
I don't think camping can ever be completely eliminated as long as the game mechanics (map layout, honor reward system) encourage it. I do think it can be reduced, even if I can't convince an entire bracket population to change. One person might not be able to do much, but the assumption that there is nothing at all I can do is just plain wrong.
I can try to act according to the same principles in game as I do in every aspect of my life. I have been in games that would have ended in a prolonged unpleasant experience for the opposing players if no-one had spoken up. Sometimes it only takes one or two people to convince others to change the way they play a little bit.
On the other hand I don't believe in calling people out to shame them. A winning game can be a heady experience, and even players disliking the idea of farming can get too close to the enemy GY occasionally. I act according to my principles when I talk to the people that play in a way that I think makes others miserable. If i can convince them that my way of thinking is agreeable, fine. But I really dislike pushing a personal point of view onto others as an absolute truth.
In my opinion public shame lists should be reserved for occasions where the perpetrator is near untouchable by any other means, like governments, corporations, and complex and huge organisations, like religions or organised crime.
tl;dr
My opinion, but not necessarily anyone else's:
- Always talk to people first, instead of about them.
- Know what your principles are. Try to act accordingly, always.
- Try to convince others, but don't assume that your principles are the absolute and only truth.
- Have fun. It's a game.
Also I really wish there was one thread called Grievances, Successes and Boredom where people can post all about losing a game and being camped, winning a game, getting a fish, getting a pet, getting a hat and Korean gamers not PvPing. And being bored. Sorry for trolling, I'll black it out. But I felt an urge to say this. -_-
