Calculating resil dmg reduction %

I don't even...

Total resilience - 40% = Resilience % from rating.

Finding out how much % per point = resilience % from rating / rating.

It's THAT simple.

if you want to find effective damage taken, do 1 - damage reduction in %. Times the basic damage by that number (will always be 0.X). if you do it with multiple values, you can find the difference in actual percent by doing (Newvalue / Oldvalue) * 100.

for example, you know 1000 resil have 60%-40%=20% reduction. you want to know the reduction of x resil or any other:
1-((1-20%)^(1/1000))^x+40%=totoal dmg reduction of x resil

im gonna use this for the rest of my life.
i think this is one of the first times i have seen theory crafting done with propper math o.0
silly math is good yes, but this is awsome!

actually the theory is still very simple...at a certain level, no matter how much resil you have, an additional resil will always reduct the same percentage of the CURRENT dmg you take with the resil you aleady have. (ignore the 40% basic)

if at 0 resil you take 1000 dmg and at 1 resil you take 990,(reduct 1% of 1000)
then when you have 50% reduction, an additional 1 resil will make you take 495(reduct
1% of 500)
so it seems like the return of resil is "decreasing" when you have only half reduction as the first resil you get...how ever its return to effective health is increasing:p

just reduction/rating is an approximate approach.. only when the old and new ratings are close.. it will have error when you use 100 resil to caculate 2000....

Indeed, going from 98 to 99% resil will effectively half the damage you take, while going from 40% to 41% only decreases dmg taken by 1/60th. Not including armor/resistances/other forms of mitigation.

thanks Hapsen :D
but for which lvl is this equation? 80 or 85? at 80 1k resil grants me 68% dmg reduction :s
do I just put 28% instead of the 20% in the equation?

Edit: waaait so resil is linear? I think i always forgot about the static 40% >.<!

so by this calculation i would get 87.3% reduction with dual malevolent tyranny enchants instead of the usual 80%.... U guys think 7% more resil and around 23% pvp power is worth switching to, instead of 2X windsong? (at lvl 80)

Going from 80 to 87% resil effectively reduces your current damage taken by almost 1/3. So if someone hits you for 15k at 80% resil, it would only be 10k with 87% (not including other forms of mitigation). And yes resil is linear. And 23% pvp power sounds like a lot to me, so go for it!

Now I get Splosion's bafflement rofl xD
Can't believe i counted the 40% base resil into the rating omg... dumb mistake. Ty all for the helpful posts!
Aylax yeah it's definitely worth trying ;D
Do you know if the buff from Windsong stays on if I switch weapons?? would be cool to go into the fight with 2 windsong procs then switch to pvp power/resil.

I'll give it a try when i find an extra pair of Bjam's Door-breakers :D could make for some fun burst
