Buying a laptop

I'm pretty sure WoW doesn't use the HTTP protocol...

It doesn't, lol @ anyone suggesting it does.

Not necessarily, there was a time where single cores would still outperform dual cores at different tasks. Efficiency also depends on software.

If these things catch your interest easily, clickity click: Multi-core processor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is why Pentium 4 will always be awesome. I'll enjoy my 3.6GHz Stock speed on 3 of my PC's, and my Quad/Dual cores on the rest.

^indeedity. my old athlon 64 4000+ lasted me ages. it wasn't exactly top of the line, but it'd haul just about anything.

Wtf... how many PC/laptops do you have? why do you need that many?

Also, this laptop currently has $200 off, plus i have a voucher which will bring it down another $333... Is it worth $2166?

bootcamp?

because running pointless extra software in order to run windows programs is so much better than just having a windows machine, amirite?

Get a Mac IMO.

Zero reasons to get a mac unless you are in it for the "awesome aesthetics" aka brushed aluminum, or are just a fan boy.

-Price: the laptop i have i got for $970 (dv6t quadcore) and is superior or equal in every way to the macbook pro, which starts at $1200 for A THIRTEEN INCH LAPTOP, with shitty parts.

-Future use: with mac you get no customization or upgradability.

-OS: the os really doesnt impress me, nor do the "no virus" claims. i have had zero problems with w7 or xp...vista was the only road bump.

-Security:stop going to shady porn sites, and using limewire for ffs, or at least get a firewall/virus scanner (i use avg and zonealarm, both free versions too).

-Productivity: windows has the most software written for it. fact.

-Gaming: windows has more games. and the power to run them.

for reference my laptop has w7 64bit, i7-720QM (quad core proc), 4gigs of ddr3 ram, 320g hdd, nvidia geforce 320M - 1gig of standalone mem...runs wow amazingly, dalaran has never looked so good, 15.6" HD screen & a blueray drive. granted i bought this over blackfriday weekend so i got a bunch of discounts & free upgrades, but even w/o all that this is still a hands down better machine than a macbook pro.

-go ahead and compare, trust me i have and it isnt pretty. get ready to weep when you see the crappy macbook pro parts & sky high price.

so if steve jobs has a vice grip on your balls, you love aluminum cases, or dont mind paying out the rear just to say you have the os and the apple icon (and not even mouse with a right click ffs!!) then be my guest.

tl;dr: you have to drop 2k irl gold just to get a macbook pro that compares*** to my hp.

***the only things that compare is the 320g hdd and 4gigs ram - which isnt even ddr3. you still have inferior processor, gphx card, no blueray, only a 15" screen. and you look like a hipster/artist/homo

I agree with the above. Macs are way overpriced. Plus they are way too "one way". You can't play many games. It's not upgradable. It's not worth it. Maybe when they start making them upgradable and more compatible with other programs and systems I'll look into one. And as said quit visiting weird sites and shady places and you'll have rarely any virus issues.

that laptop sounds very similar to mine... but cheaper. i bought it over the weekend, ended up getting a toshiba f60/00y, 4g ram, bluray, 15.6 inch, 500 g hard drive, same graphics card as you ^. i don't think the processor is as good though, but yeah. haven't tried wow yet, hopefully in the next few days. oh and i got a tv tuner, cause thats important... rite?

hah nah, tv tuner was like a 75$ upgrade. nothx since i have tv(s) to watch tv on and if im on a trip somewhere with a laptop i'll just watch tv ive torrented or just stream it

gz on ur purchase. glad u didnt buy an apple!

hey dude, don t buy laptops to play wow

i played wow on my apple powerbook and i got burned cause it overheated

wow is a very demanding game and laptops have problems with cooling

i recomand you, if you still wana play this dumb game,

a VERY big laptop with a lot of cooling or a desktop computer

BTW, that laptop has 5400 hard disk speed - which sucks BIG time

at leat you should buy a mac or something... better hard disks...

lol rcst strikes again. for one the bigger and more powerful the laptop the higher the heating demands are, aka the hotter it gets and faster too. i have a laptop b/c im in college and it's not practical to have a desktop plus i love the mobility of a laptop anyways. you also fail for playing on an apple powerbook

btw my laptop has a 7200rpm disc speed, not all are 5400. just do some research before you buy your laptop (of just upgrade it afterwords). i have had 5400rpm hdd before though and it wasnt noticeably slower

Im playan wow on a laptop and this is 3 months running almost. I also used to play it on a shitty laptop and that was around for a year then a long time later about a month or two.
