Breaking the Postmaster's Set

I was bored this afternoon, so I took a deep look at the Postmaster's Set for clothies in Cataclysm. As it stands right now, The Postmaster's 4-5 set bonuses give the entire set a +20 intellect bonus. My goal this afternoon is to show an approximate difference between the set and other potential BiS pieces.

This estimate is rough and probably doesn't represent exact numbers, but it should give you and idea what we're looking at now.

First off, the 5% run speed is not really a super bonus, because players can be capped at 108% run speed (which an enchant like Boar's Speed does), therefore set bonus or not, Boar's Speed (+9 stam/runspeed) is still the ideal enchant.

The Ring in the set looks to be BiS across the board, so regardless, one of the rings you'll be wearing will be the Postmaster's Ring.

Here are the two sets I'll look at:

The Postmaster's Band

The Postmaster's Tunic

The Postmaster's Treads

The Postmaster's Seal

The Postmaster's Trousers

AND

The Postmaster's Seal (BiS ring)

Tattered Dreadmist Robe

Enumerated Sandals of the Sorcerer (will make a guess on stats)

Eye of Flame

Whispersilk Leggings (assuming that we can obtain these)

Stats:

Postmaster's Set ::

Ring :: 8 stam /8int /8haste

Feet :: 11stam/11int/11haste (+9STAM/RUNSPEED)

Legs :: 15stam/15int/15haste

Chest :: 15stam/15int/15haste (+6 ALL STATS)

Head :: 15stam/15int/15haste

TOTALS:: + 20 int from 4 and 5 piece set bonus and enchants

8+11+15+15+15 = 64

6 stam + 64 stam + 9 stam = 79 stamina

6 int + 20 int + 64 int = 90 intellect

+64 haste = 64 haste

BiS without set bonuses

Ring :: 8 stam /8int /8haste

Feet :: 12stam/12int/14haste (+9STAM/RUNSPEED)

Legs :: 14stam/14int/21haste

Chest :: 24stam/16int/~6haste (+4 ALL STATS) (Reforged 16 crit * 0.4 ~= 6)

Head :: 15stam/30int/10haste (Reforged [10 spirit + 15 FR] * 0.4 = 10 haste)

TOTALS ::

8+12+14+24+15+4+9 = 86 stamina

8+12+14+16+30+4 = 84 intellect

8+14+21+6+10 = 59 haste

If we weigh all of these stats equally, The Postmaster's Set barely edges the BiS set out by 4-5 points. I would probably value haste a little stronger so therefore, The Postmaster's Set does outperform a mix of BiS pieces. This is also given that we actually get the Whispersilk Leggings.

So I will probably be running Strat a lot when Cataclysm comes out. What do you guys think? The current model seems to favor haste as one of our major stats now. Tomorrow I'll start posting what I think might be BiS sets.

Well if that's the case, Postmaster blows everything else out of the water :).

reforging is supposed to be available to all levels. however you can only reforge one secondary stat to another secondary stat, and only 30%. oh and no crit rating on either set? i'd value crit very highly on off set pieces then

I would still probably value hit (until cap) > haste (soft cap) > crit for secondary stats as a warlock. With CC going up to a 2.0 second cast, I want to push that back down closer to 1.0-1.5.

Looks like the Postmaster's continues to gain ground unless someone can come up with a set that does better.

ah so they changed it then, originally it was available for all lvls...hmm that shakes quite a few things up in my mind, but oh well.

and idk about locks. i mean crit has never been a high stat with 49 gear...but with dots benefiting from both haste and crit, might wanna find a nice balance and not stack one w/o the other.

as for gear, guess we'll have to wait till 4.0 and see stat changes for sure, or cata for new quests and stuff...but that set does look nice

Well that's lame. Thanks for the info!

Postmaster ftw I suppose.

I dunno if we can even get enough crit to make a difference. Stacking haste though gives tons of benefits. I'd rather squeeze an extra dot tick out and have faster casting/GCD rather than 2-5% extra crit. I'm also looking at the current model for warlocks at 80 where stacking haste is pretty uber, and it only gets better in Cata with haste adding ticks while keeping the same dot duration.

I could see classes like fire mages really liking the crit. I still think that stacking haste looks promising. We'll see when 4.0 officially hits.

but tait you have to find out the break points on extra ticks. say from 40-50 haste you get the same ticks, but at 51 you get an additional. well if you can only get 50 max...then stack up to 40 then get the rest as crit. see what i mean by that weak example?

I can agree with that assessment :).

I'll be picking up every piece that I can, hit, haste, crit the whole shebang, so I'll be able to figure min and maxing at that point :D.

At this point, warlocks look like they're going to be playing a BM hunter style with either their Felguard as Demo or Imp as Destro (500 DPS wtflux pet). Saving Grace for Affliction will be Glyph of Soul Swap since Felhunter has become worthless for 49s and our Affliction DoTs are really weak.
