Brackets and Scaling

  • Ok, I have a few questions.

First, I haven't twinked since WOTLK, so I am sure much has changed since then.

I have recently moved to a new server after BFA and will be making at least 5 twinks there.

Question 1: Can someone list all of the existing brackets by level? I know most end in *9, but there are some such as 80--though I have seen some 85 twinks. I am curious what all of the brackets actually are.

Question 2: I see many people twinking at 111 due to level scaling, and find most level 111 players can destroy even moderately geared 120s in open world content due to huge % buffs in damage. Does level scaling work in the lower BG's, or does that only start at level 111? I'd like to determine whether it is more ideal now to twink, at let's say, 51 instead of 59, for example?

Question 3: Best 5 classes/specs and brackets to twink them in. I have a good idea about this, and really don't care about the "fun--play what I like" (as I play every class normally). I want the absolute best 5 combos possible so I can work toward a goal.

Thanks in advance for your advices! Looking forward to your responses for this returning twinker.

The brackets are all X0-X9 except 110 is its own for the time being, likely to change next expansion.

111 benefits fully from BFA enchants and gems, which are a fraction of those values at 110 and below. I doubt they "destroy" any but the worst 120 now, fresh 120 gear is getting buffed all the time... and in instanced PvP they are typically worse than levelers above them. They lose all that low-level scaling benefit and essentially become 119 in garbage gear. Mostly PvE twinks at 111.

The other brackets where people stop at anything other than X9 are just for nostalgia or achievements, theres no benefit PvP wise at all. Everyone in instanced PvP is made the max level for that bracket, but their gear does not scale along with them. Everyone in X0-X9 is X9, geared X9 will always have at least some advantage due to access of the highest gear and abilities in the bracket.

You can see people stopped at 20, however, due to being on a starter account or unsubbed veteran account. Still 29 is "better".

edit- and if you have to ask whats the strongest now so you can just play that, im not inclined to help you in that area.

this is a quite an open ended question .. different players will provide you with different answers and you will end up with EVERY single class in the game lolol .. thats because when a player becomes an expert in his class, he will think that class is good, and also in this game, every class has a counter class .. and you can only control 1 player at a time, even during the days of boxing you can still only control 1 player at a time.

i provide an answer from the class i play in the 100-109

i started in the 100-109 with a ret pally .. when having the highest possible gear it usually top dmg in the entire bg, but after playing ret for about 2 years, i realise there is still issues with survivability, when i am face with say 2 enemies, 1 just purely cc me eg. fear fear fear, and the other dps me, i will die, no matter how good my gear is, so i went on to find another class that can survive better in a 1v3 or 1v4 situation.

and i raised a blood DK, they are imo the best all rounder, they have a lot of healing and its damage is very high, most people think tank cant do dmg, but a blood DK does a lot of dmg, i am usually top or high on the dmg chart in most bg at the same time my healing is always one of the top too. so whats good about a blood DK, you get to run around the battleground not needing the cover of a healer and you can take on multiple enemies, blood DK survives on hitting the enemy, the more you get to hit, the more you heal, that said, a twink mage can slowly kill you by nailing you on the spot with their cc and constantly keeping that distance, in EVERY instances, my blood dk will kill twink warriors, rogues, pallies, druids, locks, shamans and sometimes i kill hunter or mages if they are not good players. the only players that i cannot kill are twink healers. in this bracket, a blood DK has a health of about 46k (i usually get 50+k from priest's word fort in bg) while the normal players are about 16-18k and other tank class about 22-28k. it is frustrating when you can do so much dmg but you cant kill a healer .. so i search for a class that can kill a heal.

and i do it on a hunter. i spec a purely mastery stats mm hunter and came up with a macro that can kill most healers within 3 seconds in a bg. i did this hunter specially to down healers in bg, needless to say, if you can down a heal within 3-4 seconds, you can practically down every other class within 3-4 seconds .. i had mentioned earlier in other posts, the ONLY class i cannot do that to is a blood DK .. they just have too much health, unholy and frost dk i have no problem at all. hunter does not have much healing .. so if a few enemies caught up with you, you will die, i have all the escape macro on, but if those are on cd, i die. i get killed by feral, rogues, warriors, pallies quite easily when i blow my cd and they are in melee range. the burst kill macro that i made, is usable every 2 mins, it gives a full burst dmg every 2 mins, but it can give a semi burst damage after 1 min, killing normal players i can use the semi burst, but if i want to down a healer, i need that full burst to do it.

there is 1 class i have not tried playing and thats mage .. i have 2 twink mages in this bracket, but i really dont like to play mages because i am a lousy mage player, i always get caught by the enemy and i always find that i do not have enough heal, mages dont need heal, they rely on their ability to get out of range of enemies, which i cannot do .. and mages are very powerful .. some mages, they kite better than hunters, and if they can kite so well, you have to expect they hit that well too, if you encounter this kind of mage, you are almost certainly dead no matter what class you are .. but luckily, the good mages are rare, so we are pretty safe, i kill most mages with my blood dk and ret pally and mm hunters, but against a twink mage, only my hunter can kill it, my hunter mastery spec gives me a 68 yard range, while a mage does a 40 yard.

so, as you can see, every class can be taken down, its just a matter of what you want to do in the bg, choose your role and perfect it, you cannot be a striker and a defender and a goal keeper at the same time

to do what i mentioned above, the 5 basic buff must be up, flask, food, rune, orange, felstone

Can I get a link to your blood DK? I have a 99 one I might move up.

everything a 109 can do, a 99 can do as well, i mean they have the same ability (99 only have 1 less which is the talent at lvl100) .. the diff between 109 and 99 lies in their gears .. in the 99 bracket, the next best player's gear are not too far apart from yours even when you have all the really good ones, while the 109, you can widen this gap by a little bit more

i was telling you guys about the 109 hunter .. i am also having a 99 identical hunter doing exactly the same thing, this 2 brackets, the 99 and 109, are really having almost the same ability, so if you can, dont raise your 99, create a totally new 109, if you have not used up all your 50 toons

I appreciate the detailed information. I kept seeing people state that there were BG's at 70, 80, etc. But, while leveling my main toons, I did not get into any such BG's and was always bumped to *9.

As for me asking what is the strongest, please understand this very thing: I play ALL classes as per the normal. I have 1 of every class that I level to max and raid or endgame PvP with. So, when I play a twink in a BG, I want to have one of the best 5 available combos in that respective bracket and for good reason. It doesn't mean I will go with the strongest--I may rather play the best counter to that strongest class, or have 2nd to 5th best just to be able to stay competitive. I am always in preference to being the underdog so I use skill to overcome those with the advantage, but am no fool either. I also target other twinks, rather than mindlessly bash helpless levelers.

Also, I don't want my twinks duplicated. 5 unique classes. I don't want, for example, a 29 and 39 mage and 49 and 59 druid. If I make a 19 mage, that will be the only mage twink I use. The other 4 classes will go into separate brackets.

I respect your stance, however, and you are not required to advise me in this area. I thank you greatly for answering the first questions so thoroughly, however.

Such a very thought out and well rounded response. Thank you for this information greatly.

I am likely to go with the following classes for twinking:

    Rogue
    Druid
    Mage
    Warrior
    Priest

I thought about adding in a 6th as Enhance Shaman or Mistweaver Monk, but undecided on that.

I'd need to decide which brackets are best for these, of course, and this list isn't exactly set in stone.

5 new twinks? .....well thats a lot of time and gold. Really that's the secret to twinking. It takes time and gold. The rest of the stuff is just personal preference.

Yeah, it won't be immediate, but done in time. I'm in no hurry. I just at least want to get them leveled to their respective brackets, and start working on them moving forward. I've already gotten most of the 120's I want leveled and geared for the new raid, so want to have my twink goals in the right direction.

    Well good luck,

If you want a quick twink i suggest a 90. The reason....you can get a full set of pvp gear for 24 marks of honor. Enchant gear, fill sockets, level up engineering for the cogwheel gear and que up. The 99s in the bracket destroy levelers and you can beat a 99.

The difference, 99s spent days/weeks to get to that point, you spent around an hour and 10k gold. Not nearly as strong but viable. Something to check out while you level.
