Boomkin advice

  • I rolled a troll boomkin today and found that there is surprisingly little up to date information here about balance Druids.

If there is a good post somewhere please link it, but I've been looking for a while and couldn't really answer these questions.

Should I prioritize crit or haste when I have to choose? I've heard both opinions so please explain why

I was looking at some old guides and ele sham guides but is there a [pre loom] BiS boomy somewhere who's armory is viewable?

Is AGM worth getting or are the haste trinkets better?

If anyone has any tips or tricks concerning playstyle and pvp in general other than the obvious they would be much appreciated...

and lastly, are there any BoE blues I should start farming for? MM?

    thanks

Prioritize crit over haste if you rely on luck, vice versa if you want that Reliable damage output. Some people don't like the whole relying on crit thing, but I do.

My gear isn't pre boa but you can copy the rest of it.

    Tip:
If you are dueling and in a bg and going against a mage, fake-casting could be a choice or you can cast a wrath ( use till silenced) then follow up with a starsurge.(since the spell isn't in the same school it wont be silenced)

    For some sexy reliable damage;
Rake, moonfire, sunfire, starsurge, keep spamming wrath until starsurge is up.

Will have more tips when Chase and I put up a guide.

The Boes aren't game breaking, I'd suggest getting them if you repick a lot.

Stack haste as a troll ( belt cloak offhand trinkets . Then after that stack crit . As a troll if u actually activate your eclipse when you open ( get it to 75 percent or higher before then astral as up pop outs stealth on a stump) and pop your lifeblood and Berzerk you can get up to 60% haste (1.5 or faster starsurge and starfire with seeking and bis gear they should crit close to 900 ........ Gg ) or you could be swagy like me and stack int for 1.2k starsurge self buffed :)

    Haste>int>crit for troll
    int>haste>crit for any1 else.

    Probably somewhere.

Haste Trinket + Insignia as troll.

Mystic Tome from inscription prior to loom, but thats it.

Fuck haste, just stack as much SP as you can get (most of the bis pieces also grant crit so that's not a problem). You can't really stack enough haste to be effective as f2p. Well yeah with lb, berserking and natures grace you obviously can, but it doesnt matter if you have 5% haste from gear or not when you blow haste cools.

All of this advice is questionable at best

Here's my in progress spell power balance. I have 199 spell power in BG's, still missing Keller's Girdle, Tree Bark Jacket, and 2 Discerning Eye of the Beasts. My Starsurges crit for 985-1100 on prot specs and 1350-1500 on other targets, other crits are the same, wraths for ~800 etc.

I carry Rumsey Rum Dark, Elixirs of Wisdom w/ Mixology, Minor Wizard Oil, and Scrolls of Stamina II.

I use Feral Swiftness power shifting in conjunction with Darkflight racial to disengage and kite any target like hunters and rogues to allow DoTs time to tick and soften difficult fights where they might burst through my relatively small health pool. Otherwise, if we have a reliable front line and I can free cast, I get eclipse out of combat then find a sneaky spot and one shot their best dps or their best healers.

With this much spell power, my rejuvenations tick pretty much equal to my other druids even without the +10% to healing passive resto spec gets, so you are deceptively tanky while spamming rejuves even with only about 1600-1800 health depending on whether you have fortitude, and can keep your team topped if they're crossing mid w/ flag or taking damage over time in a long fight.

Thanks very much, everyone's post is very helpful.

I forgot one question though. I know as a boomkin spirit=hit. Is it 1:1 spirit:hit rating and is this how I should get my hit cap? I saw back in 2012 some posts advised having a lot of spirit for hit cap against 24s but now we need less since we scale, right? Where should I get my hit from and exactly how much do I need?

And to reiterate, get the loom caster mace and offhand for the haste as a boomy? I had planned on getting the staff originally

Yeah, you get hit from spirit with a 1:1 ratio as a moonkin. 15hit is the cap for bgs, and the easiest way to get cap is rune of perfection, brilliant necklace and battle healers cloak, although there are obviously a plenty of other ways to cap it, too.

Mace + OH gives you +3 haste compared to staff.
Staff compared to mace + OH gives you +4 intellect, +3 stamina, +6 crit more. You lose 1sp from the weapon stats, but gain +3 intellect from the enchant (only available to staff).

    Get the staff.

you want to stack as much sp as you can for the most damage imo boomkins are very gear dependent

i like being able to almost global a 1.6k target without tons of buffs than relying on crit (i still only have the crit set for the one in my sig)

    There are different playstyles.

Haste is a ratio of 2:1% at level 20. That being said:

    4 (cape) + 4 (belt) + 6 (trinket) + 6 (trinket) + 3 (offhand) + 15 (herbalism) + 40 (converted from %, troll racial) + 30 (converted from %, eclipse) + 10 (converted from %, moonkin form)

59% haste for 10 seconds. 17% haste no buffs while in moonkin form.

32% haste from eclipse, without popping any cooldowns.

Probably your highest output of damage.

    With all cooldowns up:

    1.59 second Starfire
    1.18 second Starsurge
    1.18 second Wrath

This means that using starsurge on a target approximately 30 yards away followed immediately by a starfire would cause both to hit simultaneously.

You can't just convert troll racial and eclipse into haste rating. Haste from different sources (gear, procs, spells) adds up multiplicatively.
