Boa's how do you feel about them?

not looking forward to leg and more ring boas in MoP. seems like nowa days 19s/f2p are too relient/carried by looms.

Shoulders/chest was enough and blizz should of stopped there imo.

Easy to get, makes everybody's gear more even - Fine with me

I do understand that newer players might have a hard time in exp-on, but seriously, the second time around they will be fine so who cares

They were neat when they first came out and you saw how much harder you could hit things when questing. The first people to have them were PVEers so all they used them for was leveling, not pvping, and this was before LFD.

At low levels I find it frustrating how easily they skew teams/dungeons. I hate the argument that "I earned them." I dislike how much they are recycled from character to character. I dislike how if you used one that it not most optimal for your spec/class, people shit on you about it. I dislike how much they keep people bound to their home server. I dislike having to mail them from toon to toon, and I really dislike choosing between keeping them mogged or using them to their full potential. More and more, I find myself wishing that they had just introduced grant-a-level scrolls.

this is far from true, only part you got right " this was before LFD."

first BOA's where PVP ones from wintergrasp and within the first days of wotlk live they were already being used in BGs. people who leveled have realized the power of these and use them to own (before and after XP on/off patch) against new account owners in leveling BGs.

blizz had not set accurate level limits/restrictions on many shoulder enchants and scopes could go on BOA's. imbalance was huge if you did not have these

players with BC accounts where able at the start to do the 10 day wotlk trial and with low level players such as 19's where able to get into WG and do the battles.. low levels got buffed thru the BG system to make them near on par with hi levels and where getting WG achieves. after alot of QQ on this and was nerfed

There were pvp and pve heirlooms released at the beginning of Wrath. The pvp ones could be bought with Stone Keeper Shards which you only got from lvl 80 quests or doing dungeons when your faction controlled Wintergrasp. The pve ones could be bought with Emblems of Heroism. If you were a PVEer, you'd likely have both currencies. If you were a PVEer you also likely leveled up doing some dungeons and so would have SKShards before even setting foot into Wintergrasp.

Now maybe I spoke too broadly, but as this was an opinion thread I didn't think I needed to state the history as it was on every server. On my server, the first people who had heirlooms were PVEers. PVPers were too busy spending their SKShards on pvp gems/gear. PVEers also tend to try to level up as quickly as possible to reach the endgame or to have a fleet of characters that support their main character (which if I'm remembering correctly was by questing) . PVPers tend to focus more on their one character. Again, generalizations. But following this train of thought is what made me think that for most servers it was similar.

BoAs would have been fine if they were calibrated to be equivalent to greens of that level, instead of blues. That way, players leveling alts would still get the XP bonus, still could avoid needing to worry about accumulating gear every few levels, but wouldn't overpower new players in PvP and wouldn't overpower content in random dungeons that in turn keeps new players from learning how to play the game.

A player could argue that making BoAs the equivalent of greens puts them in a position of choosing the BoA with less power or the blue quest reward with more power. I say that's a fine choice.

BoA's being best in slot undermines the game. Rare and epic drops mean nothing which takes the fun out of them. If they were < 3rd BiS it would still help leveling, provide excitement if something rare/epic drops and add more diversity to the game.

i like them becuase it was something extra in wrath/cata to spend points/tokens on but they really killed off originality in twinking, no more testing sets to optimize. throw on a few boa's and cookie cutter blues and you have it.

I would almost consider BoAs towards an "Epic" level quality of gear pre-level 60, especially the weapons. There are few twinks that use anything besides BAR, Hand Cannon, Blessed Hammer, DHC, etc. And the caster weapons far outstrip anything near that level. And unless you want a different secondary stat for your twink, the chest and shoulders are generally top tier pieces as well. In regular BGs, a fully loomed character just completely outstrips even a blue counterpart imo.

I hadn't considered the armor to be that strong, but after looking up some examples, it's true. Differences in available enchants helps counterbalance BoA armor somewhat, but only for slots that can be enchanted, and that only applies to XP-off.

Absolutely hate BoA's. Destroyed originality in twinking and destroyed people who wanted to level via Battlegrounds.

I think Blizz should introduce sets of gear for battlegrounds available from an NPC in the starting area of each battleground. Free to purchase, levels with the character, can only be used in battlegrounds, and is BiS for PVP.

Pretty much my thoughts above. I like BoAs as a means to help leveling go faster but not as equivalent or better than blue gear. I admit that my bent though is to make entry-level PvP easy to get plugged into without feeling like you need to level a high level character just to get BoAs for your low-level twink. You might argue that you can get the BoAs w/o a high level but it takes too long. Gearing up a 19 shouldn't take you more than a weeks worth of time just to feel that you're on-par with other players.

BoAs are thought to level the playing field (gear-wise) amongst twinks but they really don't imo. I think they make it harder for new twinks to gear up or at the very least it's a wash (as compared to pre-BoA days). It would be interesting to see if we could find some metrics on that though.
