Blizzard buffs Scroll of Resurrection: Ex-P2Ps take note!

Purse

Legend
World of Warcraft's Scroll of Resurrection has received a rather considerable buff. The feature previously allowed currently subscribed players to invite a retired friend to come back to Azeroth for a time. Now, however, the resurrected player will be provided a treasure trove of freebies to further entice retired players back to the game.

The returning player will be able to boost one character directly to level 80, which seems pretty amazing in and of itself, but there's more. Scroll of Resurrection will also supply its target with a free upgrade toCataclysm, seven days of free game time, and free realm and faction transfers so that returning players can join their friend right away. So, retirees and recovering addicts, if you need a little more Azeroth in your life, now's the perfect time to jump back in.

These new perks are FREAKIN NICE...

Sub for 1 month and you get...
- Well the month of gametime
- A free Lv80, which is like a RAF
- Free Cata (if you don't already have it, pretty decent)
- Free Realm/Faction transfer... (worth like $30 USD together?)

Unfortunately as I recall, Scroll of Resurrection only works for accounts up to WOTLK. Cata owners can't receive a scroll :( I'm sad. :(

TO CLARIFY: Blizzard has not made an official announcement about this yet - it's expected to come either later today or tomorrow. And there have been rumours of mounts as rewards for players who send scrolls (Spectral Wyvern/Spectral Gryphon)

Transfers might be limited to realms that your friend is on, since the pic is official. Who knows though - your friend can always just roll a lv1 toon on the realm you wanna go to.

That's a lot of beef to re-up. Someone invite me so I can transfer the rest of my twink gear to someone. Nothing awesome since I just let someone renew my account to get my mindthrusts and petrospils.

Edit: wait, that means my account isn't eligible since he just paid for a month like 2 weeks ago.

:OOOO i only had wotlk and have probbed stop playing for 2-3 months now... and i'd to love to get my shammy up to 80 and simply self lvl to 85 with the free cata \

anyone willing to send me a scroll of ressurection?

my acc expired on dec 27th so it should work as of feb 27th right? or is it march 27th i need to wait to?

I think what happens is the sender pays for your month with the scroll and then in return you pay for their next month so it evens out.

It doesn't cost the sender anything.

A subscribed P2P player simply enters the frozen P2P player's email (frozen for at least 90 days to be eligible) then they activate the link in the email.

The player who receives the Scroll of Resurrection receives 10 free days (or 7 free days, can't remember) to play. After that, they can choose to re-sub. If they re-sub, the person who sent the scroll receives 1 month of gametime free.

Looks like they're getting desparate to get customers back.

Too bad they've yet to realise that improving the game is what's needed for that to happen, and for any customers they get back to stay, instead of just leaving again.

Sure, they might be fixing things with MoP, but without them giving players more information about what they're actually doing, and inspiring confidence, MoP could turn out be another Cata. We've heard 'It'll be fixed in the next expansion' far too many times to believe it any more. They need to show that it will be fixed in the next expansion. Blizzard need to learn to communicate with their customers. That means listening to questions and answering them, as well as asking their own questions and paying attention to the responses (anyone remember the PvP poll?).

Of course that still leaves us with the problem that the game will remain broken, up until they get around to releasing MoP (after millions of people have payed for the priviledge of finding out if they have actually fixed anything, or not). They could get a lot more customer confidence in their ability to develop, if they started fixing things sooner, instead of leaving it until after they have lost a ton of customers. Leaving it for the expansion is leaving it too late. It should be in the next patch.

This game has lost subscribers because the work that is put into it's production is lacking in many areas (extremely lacking, given the kind of talent they should be able to afford, with 10 million subscribers).

Merely putting more effort into it's promotion will not fix that underlying problem.

A big announcement with more details about MoP is due on March 19th so hopefully Blizzard will get their act together and deliver something comprehensive that addresses the playerbase's concerns.

The new scroll has already gotten a big backlash with lots of subscribers complaining "OH we subscribed for years but we don't get any rewards/reward program"... and despite the mount looking cool I think it's underwhelming compared to the actual scroll bonuses (worth $50+ total).

Blizz gave me 7 free days on my P2P and after trying to get back to it I've decided I shoudln't resub. P2P is just too damn complicated and after playing F2P for a few months I just like how its so simple, there's no constant regearing/enchanting/gemming and leveling professions etc etc...... also you dont have to pay :D

@Yasueh's post: Agree with that 100%. When I saw this promotion my immediate thought was that Blizz is desperate to get some subs back.

Irony here tho, I clicked on the link.... and it before it let me get to the website they popped up a promo for the new SoR xD

Once your friend accepts your scroll and pays for at least 30 days of game, you unlock your choice of the following rewards:

  • A Free Spectral Gryphon for an Alliance character
  • Or a Free Spectral Wind Rider for a Horde character

And, to enable you and your friend to play together in Cataclysm’s newest content, any friend who accepts your Scroll will also receive the following epic benefits:

  • An optional FREE character move -- to your realm and faction so you can play together

Giving away free stuff for getting a friend to subscribe? Wow, sounds like the people I bank with. I didn't think I'd see them this desperate.

This is one thing I really disliked as P2P. Every fucking season of arena, you had to get BiS again. I'd farm motes every season just to get an extra 4 str for JC mats and ring enchants.=\

so you get a toon directly lvl80? or xp boosted up to lvl80 ??

This offer is kind of sad. Blizzard must be so scared of GW2 release and that after launching Diablo3 people won't come back to Wow.
