BIS Frost DK for Herald of the Titans?

Hello,

I had this toon optimized before 5.4, haven't played it since, and now I see some things have changed for frost DK...

I had fully gemmed into Haste, now it seems that Strength or Critical is the way to go, but how exactly should I gem now?

More on the reasoning behind it, what was it that changed with 5.4 for Frost DK and why people talk about a huge nerf to this bracket?

Given the overwhelming amount of replies to my request for help with my frost DK's optimisation, I take another step in communicating that I went in by myself and tried to do the best I could: changed Haste gems and enchants for str/crit, and reforged all to mastery

Now again, if anyone could take a look and advice, that would be most appreciated =)

I love your build and the as far as I can see theres nothing you can adjust to improve your gear, maybe your weapon with "Hammer of Crushing Whispers" from Hard Mode Yogg-saron, reforge the hit to haste so you might be able to completely tune your toon. 9.5/10

Edit: Neck Piece should be "Strengths of the Heavens"

Altho I would say throw away mastery and go full Crit > Haste, just because you didnt have Mastery back then either ^^ (Love nostalgic toons)

This bracket is next to dead -on the forums- so when you dont get a 1000 and 1 replies tailored to your queston, dont be surprised. the best you can do is look at armorys already posted. getting pissy at the lack of responses wont solve your issue. especially if its regular question like "what do i gear for"

Therefor you have to rub it in on this guy his thread? the bracket is active or becoming active again, it's just that most of them dont go to sites like this.

Take it as you will. I've played the better part of a year in both the 80-84 and the 85-89 brackets. Next to no activity, on the forums. Which is why i said in my previous post to look at armories, because that's what dudes question is really about. If you are offended by blunt truth, that's your issue. Not mine, and certainly not the OPs.

To add to that basic "how do i gear" question. Reforging will only be around for another 6-8 months at most. With the launch of the next expac its being removed. So you can either go all out, or save your time, energy and gold and not bother with it.

Thank you, I did visite every DK's armory from the list here at TI and from different posts and guilds. The fact is that only a few appear active after 5.4 and 99% of them are in Blood spec, which won't help me with my question.

I tried a Herald this Saturday with a group from Open Raid, but we were missing a tank and people were failing all around, after 5 or 6 trys, the RL just quit, but at least I was able to compare to my dps back then with full haste, and it was better this time, between 15k and 20k each try.

This bracket is still active, but the forums aren't. Sure it's no 10s, 19s or (even) 70s, but doesn't mean it has died completely. There's probably about as much activity as there was pre MoP, mainly because this patch brought the WTF-OP part of 80s back down to a normal level, which myself and other vets have been pleading for since beta.

6-8 months is still a lot of time. Min-maxing is fun

I'm surprised you didn't actually kill it after that time with the dps that's available now. I did 2 healer 1.5 tanks (dps geared pally heh) and 5 dps last reset and it died before the first big bang. But I'm not here to gloat.

With regard to your gear, simcraft does well if you use the proper commands to make it sim 80s. Just eyeballing your gear though, I'd swap belt and 2nd ring in addition to what has been said here (there's a crit/haste ring somewhere in 25M, I think it's from flame lev, plus algalon's belt but I'd imagine you probably haven't seen it yet). You'll probably also want greatness as a trinket, but again I'd sim it. Mjolnir isn't what it used to be.

Finally, there are some re-optimised enchants you can use. 14 mastery + runspeed is probably best on boots, but even icewalker is better than what you're currently using if you can drop the hit elsewhere (likely you can with re-itemisation), and I'd suggest 26 mastery on gloves, (possibly) 26 crit on bracers and cloak, in addition to potentially dropping some of those exp+hit gems for something else. If you're not going for the socket bonus, either put pure crit or pure strength (sims will tell you which is best, my guess is probably crit) in the slot. Orange gems in blue slots make me a sad paladin

It's true, I haven't taken a look at other enchants besides the crit on cloak, but it sounds like a good idea.

As for Algalon's belt, I don't see the point to change Belt of the Titans, I loose 17 crit score for 3 more str. and get 16 more exp, of which I'm already capped.
What am I missing there? Socket bonus (6 str) seems like nothing to write home about either...

I could swap Mjolnir stone for Blood of the Old God, but if I remember correctly, the tentacle is quite lackluster as added dps, so I wen't with keeping the stone, but things could have changed and I may be wrong...

You're capped with a large number of expertise gems. Algalon belt has better socket colors too. It's a gain to do it via items rather than gems, since it lets you put the gems in stats you want (crit).

I would suggest darkmoon card greatness, or perhaps even wrathstone. Blood of the old god would be great if you could get the +hit rating to be completely useful. Heck, even Fury of the five flights from os25 is a great trinket.

Mentioning enchants again, 26 crit on cloak (cata 65 crit enchant scaled down) is your best bet. I don't think crit to bracers is a great idea in herald gear, as even in bis 1 str is only just worse than 1 crit, so at 226 ilevel 1 str will be close to 2 crit.

Will check the statweights for gear that low myself soon, so will post my results.
