Best Professions as of 6.0

Hey all,

So as some of you may know with 6.0.2 passives provided by professions were removed from the game. It would tend to follow that there are now better professions to choose for situations such as BGs, arenas/skirmishes, etc. I wanted to start this thread to ask a few questions and to get a conversation going on the topic.

It seems the general consensus on AP f2p chat is that Alchemy/Herbalism is now the best combo so that you can have an unlimited supply of elixirs.

My major questions are about engineering and Rough Copper Bombs. What is the cast time on the bomb? Do they hit lvl 20s who are upleveled to 29 or do they simply miss everyone in the 20-29 bracket BGs? Are they usable in arenas (assuming not, just curious to see if anything changed).

Is there any reason or situation to use any other professions besides Alchemy assuming you have your enchants, enhancements, etc and are otherwise BiS and concerned with combat and not vanity?

Once you have enough mats and consumables, they stack to 200 now, you should be safe to switch to any profession as you see fit.
I will be going engineering/JC.

nothing what u can create from a profession works in arena.
so u look only for the grounds.
i go as meele for mining and bs cuz i got 3 wp dmg for 1h...like wizzard oil ( enchanting ) for caster.

Good call Sidney. Do you or anybody else know what heals we get from the Heavy Stone Statues? I have a Draenei that used to use them in Cata.

Rough copper bomb cast is still 3 seconds. Spell hit is broken again, not sure if that affects bombs.

I'm not a fan of farming, but with the long queue times it might be time to cycle professions and build a large collection of consumables.

Are leather kits pretty much useless now outside of FC/Tanks?

If so, I can't really see any reason to not go Herb+Alch.

Yeah with queue times the way they are I can't see a reason not to do the profession dance. Weightstones/Sharpening Stones, Wizard Oil, Target Dummies, Seaforium Charges, and possibly stone statues are fairly worthwhile. I'm sure I will always land back on alchemy/herbalism for longer periods of time.

Only prof that benefits u in arena is engineering because goggles.

bombs are worthless, 3 sec cast is brutal

imo herby/ach is the way to go

by the way folks, first aid is good now because battle fatigue isn't a thing, you can also use bandaids in arenas.

Better off using skeleton keys to open chests, as you only need two profs to make them, and you don't need to get lucky with a recipe drop.

I'd say up until you get that swiftness pot recipe, go with whatever else is best for your class (sharpening stones, wizard oil).

Remember, int/str/agi buffs aren't as great as they were, because you are only getting attack damage or spellpower out of them. Not crit anymore. That means things like sharpening stones could be more valuable than agi pots, because they add straight damage. There's also the problem that agi pots are another thing requiring a recipe to drop.

If you've got those valuable recipes, then make alch a permanent prof in one slot, while cycling herb/ench/mining/bs/jc in your other as and when you need to stock up on other consumables.

Until then you should be swapping profs as and when you need things, because so few useful items actually require you to have a prof to use them once made. Always keep a gathering prof in one slot if possible, now that we can really stock up on mats.

With no other way to get justice heirlooms at the moment, you'll need to use all the profs anyway to get DMF tickets. It's going to be a lot easier to do this than it was, because of the new mat stacking. You could well have a full stock of everything you need for DMF, before it starts.

'Best profs' is still all of them that give you things you can use, which will always be more than just two.

You can also make squirrels with engineering and sell them on your linked p2ps.

huh? how does that work?

also on the bombs - as someone said, the cast time is about twice as long as the actual stun and longer than most spell cast times. so other than just lobbing them at groups and hoping they actually do something, they're fairly useless.

Create it, learn it. Log onto main acc, cage it, sell it!

This is also a good way to make gold on servers you're new too.
