Best healer spec?

Broken

Legend
I haven't played in ages so I'm really clueless on what's viable now.

Was in the mood to play a healer. What would you guys suggest? I'm thinking of holydin or disc priest.

p.s. I'll probably be pugging, I think

Disc priest > r shammy > MW monk

Edit: Holy paladin's aren't good healers at all.

This pretty much nails it, good to see you back Broken.

Disc Priest: Strongest healer in the bracket, has very good damage, somewhat squishy, doesn't have mobility, you are gimped if there is a 2nd priest in the BG.

Resto Shaman: strong healer, good mobility, good survivability, VERY good utility (can purge, dispell, and shear)

Mistweaver monk: strongest single target healing in the bracket, good mobility, good utility (can lust others), no damage

Resto Druid: Very weak healing, very good damage in cat form (like all specs), best flag carrier in bracket

Holy Pala: Weak healing, good mobility (150% speed at all times if you keep 3 charges up), decent utility (dispel and lay on hands), decent damage (holy shock and denounce)

Healing Wise, I would say Disc > Rsham = MW > hpala > rdruid

Damage Wise, I would say rdruid (cat form) > disc > hpala > rsham > MW (no damage)

Mobility Wise, I would say Rdruid > MW > hpala = rsham > disc

Utility Wise, I would say Rshaman > MW > Hpala > Rdruid = disc

Overall Rating:
Disc 5 stars
Rsham 5 stars
MW 4 stars
Hpala 3 stars
Rdruid Healing 2 stars
Rdruid FCing 5 stars

if you want to heal... hpally / rdruid would be the last things i'd recommend. unless you have a hard on for either spec i guess

Disc is as OP as feral, imo. I'd try Hpally for the challenge, or Rdruid for overall PUG enjoyment...

p.s. MW is great but has no HoT and, literally, ZERO damage ;(

It actually has the strongest HoT currently lol but yeah no damage and no cc besides racial and can be cs'd or killed pretty easy.

Here is where we were discussing it in the 20-29 section a few days ago. It goes a little more in depth than some of these posts.

I will mention, as I did in the other thread above. It all depends on your play style. If you plan on doing some damge as well as healing, then priest may be for you. But, you only have the choice of cloth gear.
Shaman has more survivability, does less damage, LOT more utility and can has more gear choices. MW has instant casts, almost zero damage, good utility, good gear choices. HPaladin has weak heal, good survivability, good utility, good gear choices.

All I play is healers. All I do is heal, dispel, interrupt, etc.(things healers are supposed to do). I pretty much only play shaman, MW and Paladin. And that is because of their SPEED and armor.

I'm probably going to roll disc.

Any tips for arenas or bg's?

What will you be doing for arenas? Solo queuing or queuing with a friend? And what comp?

As for bgs, i'll throw you some advise. Disc is a bit more complicated than people like to say it is. Disc is the best mid healer right now and you'll increase your effectiveness as a healer if you play with awareness. In bgs it's tempting to just bubble every friendly target before the fight begins but if you do, you're only gimping yourself. As you know discs get the buff "Borrowed Time" when you bubble a target which is huge and should be used correctly. You should try to keep this buff up 100% of the time if possible and you would do this by bubbling friendly targets that are usually at the back of the team fight (hunters, hunter pets, other healers.) If you manage to keep up the buff you can basically burst heal more as you have more haste.

Also, bubble is so op. It's a heal for 800-900 which is cast-able while moving. Use this to your advantage by bubbling your frontline targets (the ones who take the D a lot) when they are being bursted. This links with situational awareness, e.g keep the enemy boomy / lock as your focus targets, so that you can see when big damage is coming (starsurge, chaos bolt.)

Thirdly, discs are insane because of the damage you can put out. If you have a second disc in your group or other heals, try to do a bit of damage by spreading dots and chucking offensive penances. You should be using every single GCD to either damage or heal. Also, positioning in bgs: stay near the back of the group, pay attention to what the opposing team may be doing (if they're about to break off for your FC) and also see what your team is doing, (whether your front line is extending which may cause you to push up.) Similarly, look out for rogues, boomys and ferals too, as a disc you have shit mobility so a lot of stealth classes like to target you at the mid fight, hence positioning and situational awareness is important.

Playstyle, it's all situational. When you join the BG, asses your team and your opponents. Which team is more likely to win mid? Which team has an FC? How many rogues / ferals do they have? If your team ends up breaking into offense and defense, It's situational which way you go. If you have another healer on defense with your FC, you should go O, vise versa.

Gear wise, you can check out the the armories listed here, I personally would prioritize stam > haste > int > spirit.

Happy priesting!

disc is my personal favorite, also an easy one for starter healers
resto shaman is a very strong choice too, they are very multi-functional
