Balance druids?

Steampunk

Legend
Alright, so, I've had to quit paying for wow and thought I'd give f2p a shot. I'd sort of like to play a balance druid, and I was looking around to see if anyone actually plays them. I couldn't find much -- most druids who had armory links on here were feral or resto -- and I'm wondering, is there a reason for that? Is balance broken at 20 or something? Would I get pancaked if I played it?

a fully BiS geared Balance druid who knows how to PvP will go very far in this bracket.

Balance druids have one of the highest skill caps in this bracket. If you do plan on going balance, go Troll w/ Herb.
When needed to do burst dmg, you have your haste CDs which will come in handy and you should be getting pretty high crits.
Balance is crit-dependant, majority of your burst comes from lucky crits.
DoT spam as much as possible when you are not needing to single-target kill(IE: EFC). DoT spamming will proc Clearcasting which will let you cast Regrowth on people who need heals(this will allow you to offheal without running ur mana on empty). Rej whenever you can.
Don't be afraid to root spam. For example: Lets say you and this melee-class are trying to kill this hunter, most melee classes @this level will do more dmg than you, but they dont have much ToT abilities(other than ret paladins). By spamming roots to force the hunter in melee-range and keeping your teammate's ToT longer, you are being more helpful than you can possibly imagine.
You have the option to stealth, so choose your battles carefully.
Lastly, be aware of fighting Taurens/NEs. Because of their nature resist, you need to know what spells to use AGAINST them. Getting any of ur spells resist is an easy way to make you an easy target.
IE: Use starfire instead of wrath, and only apply ur moonfire dot instead of both ur dots. Even with the 10 spell pen trinket, they can still get resisted.

Sum it up:

You can CC
You can offheal(through HoTs and Clearcasting Regrowths)
DoT spamming(when you have this on 5+ ppl, you'll see some amazing numbers of the dmg charts, and it's an easy way to proc clearcasting)
With Haste CDs, you single-target burst dmg is proficient.
Stealth/Travel form makes you a hard target to kill.

Balance druids are always overlooked. Most people think they are complete garbage, take my advice; roll Balance. Balance has one of the highest skill caps in this bracket, and if you actually know how to PvP; you'll blow peoples mind away.

That was spectacularly helpful. Thanks :D

No problem. Now this part is optional, but I found it helpful to gear Pre-BoA as feral for pvp. Once you grind enough honor to get your BoA Staff of Jordan, start gearing as Boomkin. You might find this a lot easier to get honor, because Pre-BoA/Pre-BiS Boomkin can be very rough, your dmg will suck and your heals will blow, and your overall performance will suck.

But that's my personal opinion. Do whatever you want.

I agree but make sure to be careful with this so you don't end up choosing the wrong quest rewards

The profile linked by Cer is not BiS. Replace GSoJ for DHC, replace Sorc cloak for Elder cloak, and bracers for Drakewing Bands.

Leave it to golden to correct my mistakes!

wow ty very much for this thorough repsonse i have also been wondering for some time if balance is 'viable" and came it seemed that pre BoA/BiS it sucked i can also atribute to haveing met some great balance druids in Bgs (one or two of them, they are rare) getting startsurge critted out of a bush that they snuck into in cat form, and then getting 2 DoTs on u and another starfire b4 u knew they were there, and then only to have them travel form and be gone is an scary thing

Yep I found myself doing this all the time.

One cool thing I'd do:

Wait for EFC to get 4+ stacks
Get Eclipse (Lunar) - Spell - World of Warcraft
Get zerking with my Haste CDs ready to go
Stealth up near to the EFC(as far away as possible but still in range, within their LoS AND behind them)

Then Pop Haste CDs(with zerk buff), Starsurge + Starfire + Moonfire Spam

Now the EFC is at or below 10% Health and he doesn't even know where the attacks came from.

hmm i think i saw a link in someone's sig, it was for a blog speaking about f2p druids, anyone got the url? (maybe the author himself!)
